I have a slim PS2 that doesn't read GT4 anymore. Works with all other games. I figure this is a laser issue (since GT4 is on a double layer DVD) so I'm planning on ordering a replacement. My question is, how much should this cost, and where do I get one? I found this one via Google shopping:

Seems nice and cheap, but is there some problem with it? Why is this one $9 while other places charge $40 or $50 for what appears to be the same thing?

When buying *just* the laser, you have to make sure it's compatible. A given slimline laser model isn't compatible with all slimlines. One way to be sure of compatibility is to just replace the entire optical block.

I would recommend buying from Mod-Chip.com - I've done lots of business with them over the years and never had a problem.

EDIT: If you have a v12 slimline, I would look into getting a laser fix. That version was known to burn out lasers - however it was moreso a problem reading burned discs over retail.
