Ps2 setup question

I just ordered a 24" LCD from Dell and i'd love to use my PS2 on it using s-video. The question I have is how do i go about the sound? Can I plug the audio inputs in my computer? I have speakers but they just have a simple audio jack, nothing fancy, doubt it'd work.

any advice on the best way to go about it ? (new sound system?)

Get an adapter from the RCA audio plugs to a stereo minijack, plug that into your PC's line-in, or into speakers, or whatever.

That's the stereo version (i.e. the one you want)
You're probably going to also need something like this:

I'm running my PS2 on a 2001FP (S-Video) with audio through my computer. The free length between the audio and video cables on the PS2 is fairly short (since it's intended for TVs where the jacks are right next to each other) - if your computer is on your desk and right next to your monitor, you may have enough slack, but my guess is that you'll need the extension.

The RS parts are pretty overpriced. Since you already have the PS2, you can examine its cable yourself and verify what you need.

I forgot about the $15 minimum at MPJA, but here are 2 cables that should set you up.
3.5mm = 1/8in connector
3.5mm PLUG TO 2 X RCA JACK
12ft 1/8" PHONE PLUG MALE TO FEMALE
I prefer a 3.5mm JACK TO 2 X RCA JACK (I got it with a set of Logitech speakers) since you can also plug speakers directly into it if you want to bypass your computer, but I couldn't find a listing for it. You'd need a MALE TO MALE extension in this case.

got another question 😛

If I were to use an s-video cable like this one: http://pictures.kyozou.com/pictures/_2/1315/1314081.jpg to connect my video with, could I still use the normal audio cable to plug into my speakers?

ie. can you use that s-video/audio cable and still plug in your audio into the "normal" audio input?
That cable looks odd. I think it's a combination Composite + S-Video, but the last plug looks like another RCA to me.

PS2 cables come in 3 variations, AFAIK: Composite only (1 RCA), Composite + S-Video (1 RCA, 1 S-Video), and Component (3 RCA). The audio is always 2 RCA plugs.

thanks for the info.

i go tthe 3.5mm plug to 2 x RCA JACK, and I already bid on that s-video cable on ebay you just saw (the weird one). My question is can I use the 2 cables seperately. IE. Use the s-video cable for the video part and use the normal RCA jacks for the audio part. An extension might be needed yea you're right.. 🙂

There's only one connection on the back of the PS2 for audio/video, so you'll have to use extensions for the audio.

thanks, got an extension off ebay.

the s-video cable though the guy is trying to charge me 16.00 USD for shipping, and he's in Canada as well.
