PS2 RPGs?

I'm thinking about getting a PS2 (yeah I know, I'm late), and the games that look most appealing to me are:

Xenosaga Ep. I (I played Xenogears back in the day and I'm a huge fan of it)
Suikoden III (I played the original back in the day and it was cool, but never played II)
Disgaea (Looks like FFT with Saga Frontier II-ish graphics -- games I both loved)

I never got into any of the Breath of Fire games (I played 2 and 3), and the new one doesn't look that great either. I used to be a huge FF fan, but I don't really like the turn they took starting with 8, and 10 doesn't look like my kind of game.

Oh and what's up with those new tiny PS2s? I wonder if I should get one of those, or get a used old PS2 for cheap?

FFX is actually a really good game, FFX-2 is NOT.
Xmen: Legends is good too, althought not a true RPG
Check out Star Ocean also.

as for the tiny PS2's, it's basically a PS2 + ethernet port - HD capability.

ugh, i just bought a gamecube for ikaruga and metroid prime, i'm about to buy an xbox for halo 2... and i really want a ps2 for the rpg's.

not to mention my addiction to PC games.

ps2x is suppose to be coming out very soon...

it has some changes like the cd will insert much like a car cd player... and then some other things...
i think it will come with all the stuff youll need for ps2 online... which when i bought my ps2 you had to buy seperately... on top of that it think it is suppose to be faster and better graphics...

however if you want to buy an original... i bought mine the day it came out.... and ive been considering selling it... it will be like a collectable or something...

Cube sucks. Worst investment then the N64 was. I'm sick of Nintendo marketing their overplayed crap. I used to love Nintendo, but their old values lost me.

If you like Xenogears, and the uber intresting story line. You're gonna go crazy about Xenosaga, so much left to be answered. And you have to wait til next spring!

I was playing FF 9 (actually a PS1 game) until I got hooked on the Jagged Alliance 2 Urban Chaos total conversion, and FF 9 was pretty fun. It's only about $15 for a sealed copy on eBay, same with Xenogears, Chrono Trigger (in the FF Chronicles with FF 4) and FF 7-8.

Also, RossMAN's GottaDeal has a link for a buy-2-get-1-free deal on PS2 games, which has me thinking about upgrading from my used PSOne myself. Evil Dead: Fisfull of Boomstick, Kingdom Hearts and another game for $40 sounds pretty good.

> I hated 9 more than 8.

I started with it (never played the older ones) so hopefully that means FF 7 will be even better 🙂

FF 10 was pretty good, although I never finished it... I've been thinking about getting a pstwo just for that though...

XMen Legends is only good if you have a couple people to play with. I hated it in solo mode.

Xenosaga, Suikoden III, and Disgaea are all fantastic games. I'd throw Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 onto the list.

SH1 is a great game if you can get past the dated graphics and laughable voice acting. it was the first PS2 RPG, so there were still some kinks to work out. SH2 is just a great game period.

I dunno, maybe I'm just stuck in the past, but FF9 seemed like a pathetic attempt to copy the old school FF games. The old style goofy humor is gone, the characters make me hate them (when they should do the opposite), and the story wasn't that exciting. The one great thing about FF9 IMO was the graphics and sound. Some of the environments in that game were really really cool.

I think the graphics were the point from 7 on.

I dunno, but I'm probably the only one here it seems that enjoy the entire line of FF games. (Especially FFVIII 🙂 )

The best part of the FF series is the setting and mood. Very few RPGs can do this as well as the FF line up. It made you feel as if you really in the game and the world was real, and a world you would want to visit. Some other games after you beat it it was still a $hithole to live in. FFX was really good at this but it had the advantage over it's predecessors.

Xenogears was my all time favorite RPG. I hope they remake it some day.

Which is lame because you don't need technical wizardry to create good environments. You don't even need 3d (I think of that town in Saga Frontier II and the music automatically starts playing in my head -- damn that is a cool game)

Oh yeah, there is always the PS disc that includes the first two FF games (maybe more), and supposedly they're coming to the game boy advanced. I'm thinking I'll have to pick one up.

Grandia II.

Never played Grandia Extreme, cause I didn't have the money for it when I saw it, and I haven't had the chance to really sit down and play PS2 lately.

I had Grandia on PSX, and I got bored pretty quickly and sold it. Reviews for 2 don't seem that great. What do you like about it?

I had a PS2. None of the games that I saw really intrigued me except for MGS2. FFX was good, but it's no FF3. It's not even in the same Relm. 😉

a whole bunch...go check gamespot's ps2 rpg section.

to whoever said the gamecube was a crappy investment....
maybe for you.

i still play mario kart daily with my rez buds. good game to complement drinking
