PS2 repair

My son pulled the controller too far and ended up pulling his PS2 off his dresser and onto the floor. The front bezel popped off and now the tray won't eject when we press the button. The PS2 itself still works, because the game he had in it still plays fine, so it appears that only the tray mechanism got broken. I've seen a few repair guides on the net that are like $10, but has anyone had any experience repairing this part, and if not, can anyone recommend a repair shop either in the Nashville, TN area or a reputable shop where I can send it?

I'm wondering if just buying a refurb from EB World or Gamestop would be a better route? I'm not sure what the average price is to fix something like this. Thanks for any advice!

Have at least taken the cover off yet? You should be able to see what's causing the problem, and possibly realign or reseat the offending parts. (If you don't feel that you can fix it at that point, then start thinking about a repair shop.)

My niece did the same thing to mine. I just popped the cover off, got down to the drive assembly, and pulled it out and pushed it back in a few times, and made sure all of the rubber bands were on the spindles. Hooked it back up and it worked like a charm. It is a HUGE pain the ass getting some of the cables hooked back up though.. this one took me about 20 minutes to put in, then it fell out again while I was putting the case back on.
 
Well, I finally had a chance to take a look at it. I managed to fix it, and it was fairly simple. Apparently I pulled the tray out too far when it died to get the DVD out that was in it, and that didn't help. Had to realign the gears and teeth and that did the job.

I didn't have to mess with any of the cables. I just had to make sure I didn't pull the top cover too far away from the base while working on it. If I would have damaged/removed that silver cable going to the power/reset buttons then that would have been a pain in the butt. Total time was about 10 minutes. It has worked like a charm ever since! Thanks guys!

Well Tom, I guess this is an indicator to get wireless controllers so that your son won't repeat this incident again.
