PS2 port Obsolescence?

Anyone have any views or links on this subject? I've heard roomers that these Keyboard and Mouse ports could be dropped in favour of only having USB on the mother boards. I guess it make sense from a manufacturing view, are there benefits from keeping the PS2 ports alive?

😕

Like the floppy, I don't think ps/2 ports will be going away anytime soon. A lot of people prefer them to USB for their own reasons. For mice, it might be better but for keyboards...

I still use my mouse/keyboard on PS2 ports,I see no reason to use UBB and increased cpu usage while PS2 does a very good job and has for years.

If it aint broke dont fix it, mouse/keyboard dont need the extra bandwith USB provides & work very well with the old ps2 port.

On some BIOS(at least mine) for mobos they require a PS2 keyboard...and PS2 works all the time, I don't know if USB would work in DOS. I just wish we could get rid of the floppy.......

PS\2 and the floppy need to go away. One thing Apple tends to do right is dump old technology like the floppy. How hard is it to allow USB functions in the BIOS? USB had been around for about EIGHT YEARS. There's been plenty of time to switch.

Until more KVM switches come with USB instead of PS/2, it will be around for quite awhile longer.

whatever karmasalad said.

btw floppies are used mostly by schools. every mac in my school has a floppy hooked to it so i see mac without floppy as more like a handicap.

and isn't there already digital camera, web cam, scanner, printer, USB flash reader, USB hard drive, USB cd burner, USB tv tuner, USB speakers and all that to populate our max 6 USB ports that are only on the newest, most expensive boards? i don't see any boards with 10 USB ports built in by default or the need to build one

newer technology doesn't always means they are the best way to go. if i can choose between a 19inch CRT and a 17inch LCD i would gladly take the 17inch LCD, then sell that sucker then get a 22inch CRT =P

floppies still have its use in many areas, the drive itself costs $10, the disks are 50 for $4.99, and they don't need software or driver to operate. as a matter of fact if you use a floppy to save 20kb or so it would beat the crap out of a CD burner speedwise, and most documents are under 40kb or so
