I'm considering getting a PS2 or xbox game console for my room mostly for when I have friends over athough I will probably play a few games myself or watch movies on it. I was wondering what others thought on wich system is best for multiplayer games? Also I'm trying to keep the cost of purchasing a gaming system as low as posible if I can expecialy since both microsoft and sony are gona have new consoles coming out to replace these eventualy. I'm not sure how much longer down the road that is anymore.

Well your partly right..

Xbox is better multiplayer.. Xbox live plus no need for a multitap are big pro's compared to sonys (free) service, but once again.. its a "you get what you paid for" type service :p

Xbox Next is out end of 2005.. will be revealed compeltly in E3 this summer..

PS3 and Nintendo Revolution will be revealed this summer but wont be out till 2006 :)

Either system would be fine, Xbox does not require multitaps but limits you to only 4 players. PS2 is capable of supporting 8 players but requires purchasing multitaps. I would spend my money on a PS2 because of the huge game library. A safe bet would be to get them both:D

If you really like Halo, or you think you'll use XBox Live a lot, it's hard to turn down the XBox. However, there are about 5 other decent games on the XBox (that are not also on the other consoles), whereas the GCN has quite a few more fun multiplayer games (and is cheaper, FWIW), and the PS2 has an enormous number of non-sucky games. Most of your standard sports/fighting/etc. games are cross-platform, so really the best thing to do is to figure out which games you want to play, and pick the system that has them.

I personally like gamecube the most of all of the 3 consoles. My xbox needs a new dvd drive becuase it's got a Thomson drive.

-4 players per tv is the most I'd want for most games, the xbox is system linkable for 4 players per tv/ xbox. I'd spend my money on xbox because I percieve it has more of a future, the games look much better, and it's library is ample enough to keep descriminating players busy. By the time your done buying multitaps, broadband adapter, and ample memory cards for PS2.... well

Xbox, there are more 4 player games for the xbox than there is for the PS2. Plus xbox live is great way to play with friends online.

Uhm, why ask?

A no brainer, it's teh Xbox.

Oh, but people are including the GameCube. Nintendo have always been about 4 player on one screen multiplayer.

Why (did you read the OP's actual post, or just look at the title)?

I was wondering what others thought on wich system is best for multiplayer games?

The only good multiplayer game I can think of that's on the XBox and is *not* on the PS2/GCN is Halo. Unless you're an absolute Halo junkie, or you want to use XBox Live, the other systems have (IMO) more/better games to choose from.

I didn't just read the title.

I understood firmly that he meant which is better for multiplayer titles, and the Xbox having 4 ports and the PS2 having 2 is a common indicator that one is better than the other for multiplayer titles, and as I've seen, this holds true.

You may have different experiences, but I am not completely ignorant.

NO dude, XBox + Capcom vs SNK 2:EO = endless (and I mean endless) multiplayer fun.

I don't call it my XBox, I call it my Capcom box. I can play that game for hours at a time and not notice the time fly by. And I've had the game ever since it came out (which was a looooong time ago). Anyway, XMen Legends is a REALLY cool multiplayer game for the XBox.

-I hate Halo, but love my xbox!

Good exclusive multiplayers;

  • Rally Sport Challenge 2
  • Mad Dash Racing
  • Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball (for guys anyway)
  • Midtown Madness 3
  • Fusion Frenzy
  • Kung-Fu Chaos
  • Dungeons and Dragons Heroes

-Probably more, and I may be wrong on some.

the ps2 has a huge game library that the xbox cannot compete with. the ps2 has a somewhat lackluster online experience(every publisher is on their own sort-of so your expereince will vary game to game) while the xbox live features a more unified service. online play is free on the ps2 but you gotta for xbox live.

that is basically what it sums up to.
