Go for the PS2. If you plan on getting a cheap DVD player under $100, then why do you worry about the quality of the PS2?

get the ps2. When you get more serious about HT stuff then go for a high end dvd player.

The ps2 playback is pretty good. If you had a really good Home Theater set up then you probably wouldn't be asking this question so I say get the ps2. Its pretty cheap and you get to play some games etc etc.

Get the PS2. You get a decent DVD player AND a PS2. You might want to buy a DVD remote though, but it only costs about $30. I think IGN has a review of the PS2 as a DVD player.

here's one

From my own experience, the PS2 is a good DVD player, but I haven't watched DVDs on other DVD players (besides the Xbox's DVD player).

Does anyone know of the DVD playback quality on the X-Box? Does anyone know of a link that's similar to the PS2 DVD review...but for the X-Box's DVD player instead?

Thanks!

PS: I know it's sorta off-topic from the original topic...sorry :(

I have an Xbox which I've used as a DVD player, but as I said above, I haven't tried many DVD players. It seems very good though AFAIK.

WOW the brotherhood of ater's has helped me again, I am going with the ps2 thanks a million.

p.s. I wonder if a universal remote will work with a ps2??? maybe someone has stumbled into one that works without buying a $30.00 remote.

THANKS everyone:)

When I bought my XBox, I gave my APEX DVD player to my mom... I noticed a difference between the quality, especially the audio quality.

It would be more helpful if you would tell us if the difference was a good or bad one :)

A GOOD one. I thought that was clear since I said I gave my old one to my mom after I got my XBox. :)

Unsure which model- I think the APEX Ad1500, but the XBox's playback was definitely better.

Get PS2. Its quality is at least as good as a low end DVD player, plus you get games. I've had mine for a year and a half watching a lot of movies and never had a single compatibility problem.

If you're going to buy a DVD player for under $100, the quality won't be that great. Get the PS2.
