Check this thread at B3D. A PS2-optimized C++ compiler was released. So now it won't take developers forever and cost them an arm and a leg to make PS2 games. That could save its a$$. I'm a hardcore Gamecube supported, but I do realze, now more than ever, that the PS2 will have good exclusives, regardless of which is the better system. I just may get one.

the PSX had optimized c compiler the day it was released, that was part of why the psx did so well, it was much easier to code for than saturn.

Yes, it was just a little time before such modifications and implementations would be made... I'm really glad to see that the C++ counterpart is now a coding device for the Emotion Engine... things can only get better from here on, am I right? Oh, please let me be right ;)

I think it'll attract some attention to it but it won't really "save" the PS2 per se - why would you want to develop for something that Sony intentionally made hard, even with this new piece of hardware?

Now what would this "won't really be" - 'saving' the PS2 from, Ragin'Biotch? I mean, there is currently no system out there that is as much as making the PS2 flinch.... and even sources such as TECHTV have concluded that Microsoft w/ its delaying problems in Japan and the GC scenario would only make the PS2 stronghold even stronger... SONY is a strong company... it doesn't need to be saved... not yet at least :)

The PS2 doesn't need saving. It's doing just fine, and can only do better now with newer and better games that are easier to program for.
