PS2 mouse problem

a friend of a friend just bought a new vaio computer and his mouse port does not work. They plugged in 2 different working mouses and it recognized neither of them. Now I was wondering if there was a program or a way to make certain that his port is broken. Any suggestion is welcome. thanks
 
Have all of the drivers installed for the motherboard? They should be because it's a sony. These ports seem fragile and it doesn't take much to fry them.
