PS2 in South Africa

Crono

Lifer
I'm looking to get my cousin a PS2, but I'm not sure if the North American PS2 version would work in South Africa out of the box, or if he would need a converter for the power.

You'll likely have to get games from wherever the PS2 is from as well, I doubt games sold in South Africa would work.

that list says japan is ntsc...i always thought they were PAL

oh wow. yeah I didn't even look at the list, I was just posting what I always thought they were too.

I always thought that because one of my friends bought an imported playstation game from japan a while ago, and he had to run a cd first to have the game run.

I don't know what the first cd did, but the game wouldn't work without it.

er, first you have to check the region, then you have to make sure it's either pal or ntsc.

in order to play imported japanese ps2 games in NA, (since both are ntsc you don't have to worry about that part), you have to bypass the region lock out. one way is to run a 'boot cd' to do that.
