PS2 gets smaller (again). Price stays the same.

I was browsing the local Fry's Electronics on Monday and saw that they had the 90000 series PS2s in stock for $129. The box was slightly smaller than the slims (reduced to $124); the definitive clue to me was that the description of the box contents mentioned an ac cord but omitted mention of an ac adapter.

Destructoid confirms

Looks like they've almost got this to be as small as the PSX right before it was discontinued. Closer and closer at least.

now if they could just compress it down into PSP form and allow digital copies of all games, i'd buy one.

To be honest, the PS2 slim is pretty small already.

Making it smaller seems kind of pointless since it's so small already, but removing the A/C adapter is nice  I hate those things.

MAKE THE DAMN THING $99 ALREADY.

Hell... Sony's got to be thinking why? Plus, with the record losses from the PS3 and it's insane production costs over its lifetime up till this point (due to selling at a loss, obviously), Sony is going to want to make money wherever possible. And people are still buying the PS2 in droves at $129. They'll cut it to $99 when sales start dropping. After the holiday is probably the earliest it'll drop. Or maybe... they might drop it before the holiday. Slim chance of that. This has GOT to be the last version of the PS2. Now that its small, AND has a built-in power supply, I can't imagine any more need for part shrinkage. Bundling in the power is pretty damn phenomenal given the size of that thing.

The PS3 supposedly only costs about 400 to make now, so they are either breaking even or making a slight profit on each console sold. They should make the PS2 revisions $99, while at the same time, announcing price cuts on the PS3 models, deal a double blow to MS.

This has got to be a record for the most iterations of a product. A 'new' PS2 was already released in January, right?

This is the same revision--just the first time it's come to the US.

The PS2 will never die.

It will in another year and a half according to the Sony briefing during E3. The briefer talked about a 10 year lifespan for the Playstation and said they would support the PS2 for the same duration. By that time the PS3 should be seeing lots of great releases.
