Read about it here..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the system, known as DNA-S, game CDs and DVDs will be imprinted with a unique ID. When a user puts the disc into the PlayStation2, the software ID and equipment ID will be verified over a network through an authentication server. Games that are not authenticated will not work.

Is it just me, or does this have a strong resemblance with the copyright system of WinXP?

How will this be able to work if you don't have your PS2 connected to the internet using their modem, or broadband connector?

Well, I've no idea how they exactly want to do it, but they seem to be serious...

I'll try to find some more info.

"sounds fine by me, i buy all my ps2 games"

What would happen if you let your friend borrow one of your games, or you took the game to play on your friends PS2. According to this article on some games you would only be able to use the game on your PS2 not on others.

Also, how would this work with rental games(e.g. from Blockbuster)? Are they trying to put them out of business?
