PS2, Gamecube, or xbox sales?

I was just wondering how sales for the 3 game consoles are doing. Last year, PS2 sold more than both of the other 2 new ones. I was also wondering if the other 2 consoles have made up any ground in terms of catching up with the ps2.

XBox and Gamecube have had individual months where they surpassed PS2 sales, but neither one is even close to catching up in total units sold.

I found this article.

Good read. I was one of those 754,000 sales 🙂 My wife got me the $79 Gamecube & Zelda pack from Walmart on Black Friday. I STILL can't find a place that has Mario Cart DD in stock :Q Same for Metroid Prime 🙁

Definitely. I think I read the PS2 install base is around 60 million, with XBox and GC way behind at around 10 million.
The price cut on the GC has breathed a little bit of life into it for now, but Sony is the dominant player in the industry.

You do need to realize that the numbers quoted here sound accurate, but this is a worldwide base. Number for the US would prove to be a little closer, but with the PS2 base still in the lead by quite a margin. Remember that Japan has not taken to the XBOX, and the good ol' USA hasn't taken too well to the Gamecube until just recently.

Overall, the Xbox and the GC are probably even in term of units sold (11m). PS2 has some huge number like 60m so neither 2nd nor third place are anywhere close to the lead. GC sold really well in Nov and they make it sound as though it has been selling well all year but that is not so. Only in Nov did it sell well.

Depends how you qualify "well". The October sales saw a spike following the price cut to $99, although not as dramatic as November.
