PS2 Emulator?

I have seen PS1 emulators floating around the internet and that got me thinking. If I had a DVD ROM drive could I find a PS2 emulator out there somewhere. Any ideas if such a thing exists?
thanks,

Now way current CPU's can emulate the PS2. YOu gotta have considerably more power than the PS2 to enulate it properly. Current 1ghz CPU's with massive ALU's are having trouble keeping up to speed emulating the N64's CPU (approxiamte power of a 200mhz Pentium MMX). Now the PS2 has all these vector units, whcih are extremely complex, which makes it even harder to emulate at full speed. The PS2 CPU and vectore units, when used properly probably have MORE FPU power than current cpu's. So how the hell do you think it'll emulate the entire PS2 system, including CPU. vetore units, the Video chip (which is pretty complex itself), I/O chip and all the other smaller things.

PSX emulators aren't even 100% there yet. Even on the fastest machines, they are unstable and don't run enough games properly. In fact, the only emulators that even deserve to be called more or less "perfect" are a few of the NES and SNES ones (these emulators can run like 95% of the ROM images). That's it.

Current systems like the PS2 and Dreamcast have sophisticated graphics and sound subsystems that ALL have to be emulated by the PC's main CPU (and perhaps a supported 3D accelerator for added eye candy). That's quite a load. Ever wonder why a 200MHz+ processor was needed to run a typical SNES emulator (in all its 16-bit glory) optimally?

umm, you sure? about a year ago one of my friends showed my a GoldenEye007 rom from the N64, on his Pentium 2 400Mhz it ran pretty smooth.

I ran UnltraHLE on a Celeron450 with a TNT2-Ultra and a Glide wrapper and it worked fine, so I doubt any Coppermine or K7 CPU would have any problems at all.

The N64 and PSX require at least a 300 MHz CPU.

The PS2 can't be emulated yet, especially because not all hardware specifications are available for free (which is a lot easier with 'older' consoles) and it will require a lot of processing power, much more than current PC's have.

I've seen the first tries to make a Dreamcast emulator and those could hardly run demos after months of development. I wouldn't wait for a PS2 emulator ;)

Ppl, it runs "smooth" because UltraHLE does HLE. duh. HLE is High Level Emulation, meaning, they create as many shortcuts as possbile to make it faster. Take a look at Nemu. It does NOT HLE it's CPU emulation (but has massive HLE on everything else), for compatbility reasons. Watch it run goldeneye on a 1.3ghz Athlon. You'll get a whole 5-10fps.

You think ppl are gonna be able to HLE the complex PS2 system? It's taking giant game developers considerable time and effort to just make games that make any use of these vector units, how do you think some guy in his basement with a PC is gonna REVERSE ENGINEER them and HLE them? I'd like to see that happen.

FYI, iirc what I read at Nintendo, N64 got a 90 MHz CPU. And it's got 16MB or so of RDRAM :p
