PS2 blurry images

I had my ps2 hooked up to a 27" LCD HDTV. More often that not the image would be jagged or blurry. When the PS2 would boot and give me the logo it would look like the logo was made of vertical layers and the edges were all off. During games things would look quite grainy and some picture quality was lost. I can remember in the past, it didn't do this. So, could it be my tv, or the ps2? I would have to un-plug all the video cables and re-seat them, sometimes several times, for the picture to return to "normal".

Should I try it on a CRT monitor with a VGA box? Thanks for any ideas.

Do you mean with a previous SDTV? Because, frankly, you've just described how the PS2 looks on an HDTV with a lame scaler, and the best reason ever to buy a PS3 to play PS2 games with. 🙂

The Samsung LN46A650 has a crappy scaler too, since my PS2 looked blurry/jaggy hooked up to it, unless I have to go into the settings.

Fixed that for you, sames the new ones don't have BC anymore.

I was a bit disappointed with the scaler in my Samsung LN40A530. I've yet to test it on my new TV but the 40" Sharp Aquos 1080p made my Wii composite look almost as good as the component.

I actually run my Wii through the dedicated scaler in my receiver. Makes a huge difference over the TV's scaler, IMHO. Wii at 1080p. 🙂

Would a receiver with a good scaler cost more than a good new tv? If so, I will probably just spring for a VGA box and call it good. Thanks for the replies.
