PS2 backup CD question

I have a damaged copy of Armored Core 2. It has a small through the foil scratch, and one bootfile file cannot be read. I copied it off of a functioning copy of AC2 from my coworker, burned it to a CD with CloneCD and I still can't get it to work.

I don't want to copy pirated software. I don't want a mod chip. I don't want wires and cables hanging out of my PS2. I just want this copy to work, so I don't have to dish out another $50.

Can it be done, or do I have to get another retail copy? :(

Nope, this isn't Dreamcast. You either have to buy a mod chip, or buy the game all over again. To copy a PS2 game, you should use CDRWIN.

Some retailers are rather lenient on their return/exchange policies. Try calling some stores up ask them if they have the game and if you could exchange it for the exact same game because yours has a scratch in it.

You might have some luck that way.

It really surprises me that people would rather copy a game than use common sense. I can't beleive NOONE has mentioned this, but he's been given multiple tips on how to burn it.

There's a phone number in your instruction manual about customer support. Tell them what happened. In almost all cases, for the scratched cd and the box, they will send you a new game. It'll take a bit to get there, but it'll only cost about $5-$10 in shipping, and you don't have to use a CD-R.

True, but...

#1 I already have the frickin game. I'll scan the damn thing for ya if you wanna see it, and send you a copy of my gamesave. I beat all the arena battles, and I am 7/8ths of the way though the missions.
#2 They will, no way in hell, just send another copy, paid shipping or not. Nor do I blame them. Anyone can claim they have a copy, and get a game for $10.
#3 If I wanted to act that way aneurysm, I'd just rent it at the vid store, and swap it out! I want to do this legit.

I know it can be hacked, patched, and modded, but nor do I care. I can read. I can do a search on Google. I'm not stupid. I just want to know how I can do this one, thats it. I wanna fix this so I can finish the game. Worst comes to worst I throw it away.

(Edit)

Software ETC will let me exchange it, for $20. Cheaper then buying it right off the shelf again @ full price. I'm driving up there in about 20 min. Anyone finds cheaper, lmk. :D

w00t!!

Walmart, about 10 min from my house, will exchange it for same title (Obiviously, thats the whole reason for this. :)) for free, without a receipt. Funny, because thats the place I originally got it from to begin with, way back when I bought my PS2 there.

Off I go to Wally World. Later!

Thanks everyone for trying to help.

Companies will often replace your CD for $5-$10. I've seen it in many game manuals that I have. You send in your damaged CD and $10, and they send you a new CD. Simple. :)
