ps2 and hdadvance

Hi, I hope I'm putting this in the right forum, it looked the most fitting from the choices I had. I'm interested in buying the hdadvance for the ps2. I am NOT trying to pirate anything, I own and paid for all my games! Seriously! I have a few dozen, but I hate having to go through my binder, find a game, put it in the thing, and wait for it to load. Then if I want to play another game I have to open the thing, take it out, put it back in the binder, find another game, etc etc etc

does anyone have any experience with this hdadvance? I want something to store all my games so I can just load them up and play them whenever I want and can put away all my game cds. My main concerns are:
[*]Do I need a special type of hard drive?
[*]Do I have to mod my ps2 (ie open it up and fook with stuff)? I will break it, I'm sure
[*]I would imagine it doesn't work with online games, but can I still play online if I use the original CD? In other words, can I disable it to play online?
[*]Is the interface user-friendly?

any other info would be helpful. I tried searching for a review and all I get is affiliate sites linking to damn modchipstore.com! Thanks in advance for your help

I just want to have it all in the box so I can pick it up and go. I'm real big on that. I have all my pc games in images so I can load them with daemon tools. That way I can play whenever I want, immediately. All I need is a PC-Mind control link that will start the game instantly with the flick of a neuron

thanks, I was at that page, I must have missed those big letters that said FAQ! d'oh! but one question it didn't answer: can I still play online games like socom, etc if I use the original disc or will I be locked out like the xblive users are?

If you're booting off the original disc, yes, you will be able to play online.

sweet thanks! has anybody actually tried this and would like to give their opinion? I'm ready to order it but I'd like to get a user's opinion first. Is it better than hdloader or are they about the same?

im close to having it setup, i got the network adapter and a HDD and HD loader software, some games won't work, so you should search to make sure. the afterdawn forums and ps2scene are great resources for PS2 HDD stuff.

I'm using HD loader which was the first to come out. HDD Advance isn't a updated version of what I got(game support wise). It just has couple features like copy backups/imports to HDD if you have a modded system. So far I have backed up Dark Cloud 2,Jak 2,Sly Cooper 2 and GTA:San Andreas and play them all off the HDD without any problems. Guess I would say you can player 80-90% of all PS2 games ATM. It won't play DVD9 games(just a handful of them) by just copying straight to the HDD. But I heard you can rip them to a computer and compress them to DVD5 somehow and them work.

Sony made sites take it off as far as selling it so you know it does what its suppose to or they wouldn't have bothered.

As far as the hard drive if you want to make sure it fits np go with a Maxtor 80gb to 120gb. Or Seagate. Don't get Western Digital as it won't fit. Also get 5400RPM if possible as 7200RPM runs hotter.

As for using it, it's very simple.

Don't go online so can't comment on that.
