Hello,
Turning on my computer last night, I hear a big pop and smoke coming from the Power Supply.
I have an old 333 system, so upgrade is in order, but will this power supply malfuction damage any of the components plugged into the MB?

Any advise will be hightly appreciated.
Thanks

They are probably ok. My bro blew one up, cd-rom was touching the mobo. Everything worked fine with new PS though.

I've had (3) power supplies self destruct, (1) just smoked and quit, (1) just didn't start one day and the (3) popped and then smoked to a halt. Needless to say, I don't advise my friends to buy those el-cheapO $39 cases cause they have cheapO PSes and is just a matter of time before they go south. A good PS is a must-have so get a good one.....(and "O" yea) they never blew out anything else so don't worry.

Mine just blew the past weekend. Scared me, but I went to Best Buy, got an open-box Antec 300W PS and my computer worked. We had an electrical storm that weekend and my surge protector had the surge light on but it didn't blow the fuse. Everything else connected to it worked except the computer. So I went and got a better surge protector too.

It's funny that you should mention that, I just got through changing a power supply here at work on one of our PIII machines. It just started to spontaneously reboot itself over and over. Upon looking at it the power supply fan was not turning, very hot and of course the old burnt acrid smell. So anyway nothing was ruined as far as the mobo or hard drive or anything. The only thing was that a CD that was in there was extremely hot to the touch. Don't worry about it you'll be OK.

When my sisters PS blew up the mother board and the memory were totally fried. The labels on the memory literally melted and burned. Everything else survived (including the CPU).
