PS/2 problem

I have a P3-600 machine, unknown mobo. It was running Win ME for the longest time, and the keyboard and mouse (both PS/2) worked fine. I installed XP tonight. The keyboard works fine until the XP "loading" screen (with the blue bar that moves) comes up. Then the lights go off, cannot be turned back on, and the keyboard cannot be used to type in a password or reboot or anything. If I unplug the mouse and reboot, I can use the keyboard. The INSTANT I plug the mouse back in (if I do so while I am actually in XP), the keyboard stops working again and I must reboot.

Is it possible to, uh... use a keyboard and a mouse at the same time in XP? 😉

Thanks in advance,

TGHH

Of course, as long as you buy a license for each peripheral and sign a legal agreement! 😉

Kinda weird though... what kind of keyboard and mouse are you using? I would think a PS/2 keyboard should be absolutely interchangeable, but maybe it doesn't like your mouse? Have you tried swapping in a different one?

if you plug/un plug ps/2 devices with power on you will eventually fry your super I/O chip on your motherboard and be screwed for sure
