Proxy setup help

I need a little help. I work for my university so I have a computer on campus that runs windows 2000 professional which also has a static IP. Off campus I can dial up to the school's server via 56K modem. The school limits the dialup access to only intranet access so I can't get to any external pages outside the school's network. My work computer has access to outside the network. In windows 2000 how do I set the computer up to be a proxy server so when I dial into the school's server I can use my work computer as a proxy to access external websites?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

BTW the work computer is on a t3 connection. Is there proxy software that will do it? I know ICS wants two connections to be able to setup sharing.

well I am thinking that I will need some sort of software running on my work computer so that it will act as a proxy. I know that when I dial up to the schools server that i will be able to connect to my work computer. I know that windows 2000 does not have the ability to act as a proxy natively. I know it is possible because people on the internet can go through proxy's to be anonymous.

I use a proxy software run on my personal system at work and at home to log onto my work pc. That same software is also on the servers so I am able to proxy into any of them. I use something called Funk Proxy but I would bet that you can find one to download somewhere or get ahold of the same one that's running on the server and install it on your pc. You will just have to leave your pc on at night.

your right that it's not there natively, you will need to install the software on your work pc. You can get to it when you proxy into the schools server only because your computer is part of the network. If you put the software onto your system than you can get directly into it. You may want to check with your IT dept. to make sure they don't mind 🙂

I work for the IT department 🙂 Of course they probably would not like me going around there limitation but I am not really worried. They don't care that I am running an FTP server and a Web server so they should care if I run a proxy 🙂
