I have a computer that was effected by lightening and fried the modem. The modem was replaced and worked fine. One day Internet explorer wouldnt load any pages, nor would firefox, i disabled Zone alarm and firefox worked but not internet explorer. In internet explorer i unchecked "use a proxy setting for this connection" and it worked fine. But, everytime i restart the computer the checks it again. How do i keep if from doing this? thanks

Right click on the IE icon on your desktop, then click properties. Click on the Connections tab, then click on the LAN Settings button. Uncheck the use a proxy server box, then click OK.

I'm not arguing, but how is that different than going into Internet Explore and going to tools>Properties>Connections>Settings>and then Unchecking it that way?

not sure the cause...i do know a lot of isp's like aol etc overwrite IE defaults to work best with their service. have you recently switched providers?

No, It's been bellsouth since the beginning. The only thing that has changed is the modem, replaced it becuase the other was fried.
