bear with me, im a newbie when it comes to networking and proxy type stuff, i was wondering if there was a program that i could run that would redirect all my programs that access the interet through a proxy, since lots of programs dont have an option to set a proxy, or mabye a program i could run that would just redirect a certain program i choose to go through a proxy, or maybe even a way to set this through windows without going to 3rd party software..
thanking you in advance...

Most good Firewalls can do it. (ZoneAlarm, Norton, and others).

You can setup a firewall/proxy with a "Socks5" server (Standard kind of proxy that allows multiple different protocols). You can then get a software application to "socksify" all traffic in/out of a PC, regardless of whether it has native support for SOCKS connections or not. There's a few free socksifiers (Is that a word?!?) out there, and Aventail also makes a good commercial one.

Most of the good firewalls (Sygate, WinNat, etc.) have a SOCKS5 option.

I will give some pointers, but you will have to learn most of it by yourself.

Norton Personal Firewall (it is basically the same process for all versions).

Right click on the Norton Tray Menu, at the top click on Norton Firewall.

The main screen will open, click Internet Status, click on Reporting, and set the slider to High. This setting will cause Norton to alert you when a program wants to call the Internet, or when undesirable info comes in.

While you surf a window will open and will inform you that Program X wants to get info out. You will have few choices. (to let go, to block this time, or to always bloc). Choose the one that fits your liking.

Next, Click on Personal Firewall (bellow Internet Status), click on Internet Access Control, and you will see the list of the programs to be Blocked, or to let Through. You can further configure at this menu.

Of course, you want I.E, FTP etc. to go through (otherwise you can not surf). You need to learn the subject in order to make good decisions.
