i got my provisional license 2 months ago and i live in california and was wondering what can happen if I drive people under 18 .. i'm suppose to be driving alone for the first 6th months.. can the police pull me over for suspicion?? let me know.. that would be discrimination of age, unless i was caught doing a traffic violation. please tell me. thanks.

Question #2

Okay, let's say that i drove a 17 year old friend to his house and we come upon a crash.. i am insured and i am violating the provisional part.. but is the insurance company going to cover the passenger?

The police can pull you over for just about anything they want to pull you over for. If you don't want to get caught, don't do it to begin with.

In your case its anyone under 20 is against the law, not 18, and its a secondary offense which means they dont pull you over for it, only fine you if they pull you over for something else first.

They can pull you over for any reason whatsoever. They just can't search your car without justifiable cause. And like pulse8 said, if you don't want to get caught, don't do it to begin with.

I know of very little people that abide to that law. I mean, it's like Jane will ask Joe for a ride but Joe will say, "I can't, I'm in my provision phase :("

And does anyone know if this thing is only valid in California, or elsewhere as well?

What a pain. I got my permit when I was 14.5 and real license at 15. No restrictions except you couldn't drive between midnight and 5AM without an adult.

Course that was Louisiana. :D
