Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm contract with my old company in Baltimore, and they've sent me their independent contractor agreement as well as this IRS 8233 form, which apparently I need either a social security number of ITIN number to complete.

I don't think I'm eligible for a social security number since I'm in Canada, now I'm wondering how much of a hassle this ITIN number on top of the 8233 application is going to be. 😕

I've had some coworkers who had to get them for work here since they lived elsewhere. From what I understand its just a tax ID which takes the place of a SSN since you wouldnt be elg for a social. I think all they did was fill out a form and provide ID to get theirs but how long it took to process I am unsure.

EDIT: Guy just came in so I asked and he said about 6 weeks.

Thanks for that, annoying since they will withhold 30% of the income until I get that form cleared. God damnit

Do you know if he applied for the ITIN then?
