Anyone who calls themself a 'proud racist' is speaking badly at least.

This uttering was one of those from people who don't know how to express themselves very well, venting his frustration over illegal immigration and the charge of rcaicm not by expressing his views but by this.

He didn't mean racist literally, he meant it as the word he disagrees with he's attacked of.

It's a very poor choice of words. Even his defender in the article says he's 'in no way a racist'.

Some of the citizens can't say as much though, crawling out from under their rocks.

As someone who is firmly against illegal immigration, I think it was stupid of the guy to announce he is a proud racist. Two reasons... first there are a lot of minorities in this country that are suffering from the problems associated with illegal immigration. Secondly, he is turning it into a white on brown issue. A large portion of the U.S. made up of land that was once in Mexico (that's why the landscape looks so much like Mexico (something from a cheech and chong movie)) so there is and always will be a latino population in our country.

Statements like this make people like craig234 get a woody because it infers that the only reason people to not like these illegal immigrants is because they are brown... when in reality most people are upset with the economic problems that come from this type of immigration.

I think of them not so much as Mexicans, but the ghosts of the Indians we killed rising from their graves or wherever else we left their bodies to molder.

Yeah this was one of those "If wanting America to be for Americans is racist, then I'm a proud racist" kinda comments.

Easy soundbite, poorly worded given our obscenely PC media scene but not inherently racist in context.

Hell I'm not even white and I don't find it particularly offensive. Reminds me of my girlfriend's great uncle rambling on about how he wanted to see Obama in the white house "cause it'd be interesting to see how a negro'd run the country."

Poor choice of words on his part, but being anti-illegal immigration does not make him a racist. Just gives the opposition ammo to fight against him.

This: tiny issue.
SC Lt. Gov.: real issue (saying free lunches for poor kids is like feeding stray animals)

And where did the Mexicans get Mexico?

Well, that's involving Spaniards who were 'invaders' and a history of 'natives', but that history goes way back to a development period that's not comparable to the US taking half an established nation.

And who's to say the acquisition of new mexico was also not during a development period? Either way, those border-hoppers have no legal right to be here.

You may have killed indians, but I have not done so. You should feel bad.

Should we punish the British too because they are really Normans who invaded the island a thousand years ago?

Your logic is flawed, out-dated, and you are racist.

Boohoo. Native Americans probably said the same thing 200 years ago. What comes around goes around.

quote from article fits my opinion

"He got a little ahead of himself in words," Gitlin said. "But in no shape or form is Bob Kellar a racist. . . . He is tired of political correctness. Nobody hates anybody. We just want the rule of law."

It was really stupid for him to say that as it alienates him from Californians of Hispanic Heritage, many who also have a problem with Illegals flooding the country.

Why not the Mexicans we killed to steal half of Mexico?

name me a country that doesnt exist by the blood its soldiers and what ever country they kicked off the land they currently call home

most of the old societies we laude were founded on the blood of their enemies, Persia, Rome, Atlantis, Babylon(1-5 :D ), Egypt, the Aztec's

even alot of native american tribes, who helped the spaniards destroy the aztek's

(this is not aimed at anyone, I just find it generally baffling.)
