Over the years I've used a lot of recording software and just software in general with my various Apple computers. Never have I had the compatability issues that I encountered with ProTools 6.x (designated as compatable with panther (os 10.3.2) and the G5 computer. (NOT SO!) Tech support will guide you through a very long protocol, which will temporarily allow the program to run without crashing. I spent alot of time and energy trying to overcome the barriers which supposedly didn't exist. I finally had to give up and dump the software in disgust. Sadly, I had purchased the mbox specifically because I planned to upgrade protools along with my other digital audio recording program (Cubase Sx). Fortunately I had this program (Cubase) to fall back on but I'm stuck with a limited piece of hardware which I would not have otherwise purchased.
ProTools in it's previous versions was great and ran very well on Apple Power PC 7600. Do not be misled.
Despite Digidesign's self-promoting rhetoric the ProTools 6.3 software IS NOT ready for the G5 with the Panther operating system. I can, however, highly reccommend Cubase SX (whatever latest version). I also don't reccommend the Mbox if you're into anything serious. It's just too limited and you will quickly outgrow it.
