Protesting Spelling Bee

OMFG people have too much time on their hands... I can understand the illiteracy point, but my God... picketing / protesting for this ?!

On a related note... I can't for the life of me understand why the spelling bee was broadcast on ESPN yesterday, while Sportscenter was moved to ESPN2 that hour. (Not that I watch Sportscenter anyway)... a spelling bee on a sports channel.... 😕

all I have to say is 'autochthonous'.

That was an emotional finish.😀

Those kids are amazing though... I've never even heard of that word, let alone how to spell it.

The Dutch language knows the word autochtoon (which means someone who's family originates from that country, opposite of allochtoon). Wonder what language was the origin.

Anyone remember that freaky girl from a few years ago who would put her hands up over her mouth before saying each letter? They showed it on ESPN's cheap seats a couple of weeks ago

Some people need to take some time to chill out; not picket.
Illogical spellings lead to dyslexia? Even if there were a chance of it being true (I'd be far more inclined to believe dyslexia would simply show up more because of them), why should anyone care?
Harder lives for immigrants? Yeah, let's standardize spellings. That'll do it. No problems, then, huh?
"The protesters contend that the illogical spelling of English words makes dyslexia more difficult to overcome and helps explain studies that suggest one in five Americans are functionally illiterate."
I don't know why, but that reminded me of a random Jack Handey Deep Thought. Strange. And funny.
"If these people were able to read and write with a simplified spelling system, they would be able to fill out a job application, stay employed and stay out of prison," said Sanford Silverman, 86. The retired accountant was handing out copies of his book, "Spelling for the 21st Century: The Case for Spelling Reform."
Wow, that doesn't even some strange linking to Jack handey in my brain to be funny!

I almost want to meet these people, but at the same time, would feel bad about hurting their feelings in front of them 😛.

Americans have bastardised the English language anyway, I don't know why the protestors are complaining about English being illogical, they don't even use it!

Let's ship them off to an island where they can make peace and funny words.

The protesters' complaints: English spelling is illogical, and the national spelling bee only reinforces the crazy spellings that they say contribute to dyslexia, high illiteracy and harder lives for immigrants.

lol

"Well, see, I had to rob that store because I spelled "enough" as "enuf"..."

"Spell different difrent,"

We're suppose to spell it differently because people can't pronounce the word?

Yeah, lets all be ignorant. The world will be so much better when everyone is walking around with their thumb up their ass and drool on their shirt.
