I've officially had it with this game. So much potential thrown down the drain for ill-logical reasons.

I threw in GoW1 today after waiting 15 min for a lag fest in GoW2, and I had so much fun.

Who's with me?

Why not protest by getting some friends and playing private matches??

While I like the structure/speed of GoW 1, I'll stick with 2 for now...although I'll admit I've not been nearly as excited to play it as I was when GoW 1 was new(ish).

What gets me more is all the big glitches epic always allows to be in the final game. I didn't play for 4 days and half the people on xbox live figured out how to weapon slide and do the stupid shield shotgun thing.

hah wow i haven't heard of either of those, i haven't played it in like a week probably other than horde last friday or so.

gow2 definitely is buggier than gow1, and it shows. it feels rushed when playing online vs modes.

I haven't gotten a ton of mp in on GOW2 but what I have played has mostly been private which seems to work great BTW. The point I wanted to make was I don't know if you guys remember but if I remember correctly Gears1 mp was practically broken for a long while before the first patches came out

Pretty much you have the shotgun out and there's an invisible shield in front of you.

hmm...wonder if that was what happened to me the other day. i kept getting blasted to bits up close by the gnasher. but over half the time, i shot first and then they shot, but i died. could've been lag too, as we kept getting some fairly bad lag here and there.

but i was glad to see it didn't take the three of us playing forever to find a match as it had before.

Yep. Gears 1 was an absolute mess at first, just like UT2003, UT3, and GoW2.

Epic used to be one of my favorite devs, but they have a pretty indisputable record of sloppiness.

It's fine after they add 200 patches...

It's frustrating, because on one hand I think they are a key developer: we wouldn't have the graphics or gameplay that we have in today's games if it weren't for companies like Epic, Valve, IW, etc. But at the same time, I don't remember the last time they released a relatively stable game (other than UT2k4, which benefited from UT2k3's plight).

Sign of the times I guess. This used to be a problem with mostly just PC games last generation because they knew they could patch those, but not the consoles at the time. Now that its just as easy to patch a console game we're going to see more and more buggy games released knowing they'll fix it later.

My main beef with the game is the matchmaking. It is absolutely broken. Even after the so called "fix", it still takes me forever to get into a match even though there are supposedly thousands of players online.

When I do finally get into a match it is an absolute lag fest. I dont know how the system picks the host, but it does a piss poor job. There might be nine american players in the room, but the one turd from afghanistan somehow becomes the host. The stupid matchmaker even pits 3 players vs 5 players sometimes. CoD4/5 and even Halo 3 have flawless matchmaking systems I can't even begin to wrap my brain around why Epic couldnt even come close to getting it right.

I know I'm a COD4 pimp, but their way is the ONLY way to do matchmaking in the quickest, most efficient, and user-friendliest manner. From 11/07 forward, any game that didn't take notice failed in that regard.

I gave up on GoW2 after 5 attempts at multiplayer & sold it on ebay. Glad I only paid $40 for that piece of crap.

Back to COD4

Normally I'd flame you for defacing a Gears game...but I can't blame you. There is SO much they need to fix on this game. Methinks they released it 2-3 months too early in a rush to keep up with the promised release date.

I've had a few games of Horde mode with bad lag. but that cleared up as soon as somebody left, or i quite and found another game.

All in all, I rather enjoy horde mode. I mean yeah, its just a frag fest, but I guess that's whey like it... and the game won't cheat against you.. unlike some other player.

I enjoy horde mode.

Because I only have GoW 1, I'm down. Although, I am TERRIBLE at deathmatch.

I got into 4 horde mode games, 2 of them crashed from the lag. I only got into 1 deathmatch game where 2 players left and it ended up being a one sided mess. I can't even put into words my disappointment.

call of duty 4 would be up at the top past halo3 if it weren't for world@war stealing half of the players. Still though, they're both up near the top :)

Been matchmaking for 10 minutes now. Got a team together pretty quickly, but couldn't find opponents. Then one of the guys left and BAM... back to square 1.

--

Well, I finally got in. Took about 12 - 13 minutes. The match itself wasn't too bad. Didn't feel laggy except when I was shooting people point-blank with the shotgun. I'd shoot... 2 second delay... then they die.

Pretty anticlimactic.

What's even worse than waiting a long time is waiting a long time for a laggy match. Then one guy quits, then another, all the sudden it's 2v5 and there's no way the two have any chance in hell.

As far as gameplay goes, I think Epic went TOO far in making GoW2 casual gamer friendly. I dont think the ever intended for GoW to become such a hardcore MP game. Noobs started bitching about shotguns and Epic got scared they would lose their biggest user base.

Their solution? Tone the shotgun WAY down and make the chainsaw nearly unstoppable. When noobs run at you with chainsaw they take your shotgun blast to the face and just keeping coming at you with a smile. According to my GoW2 stats, I've been chainsawed 85 times and only have 4 chainsaw kills.

I've been playing GoW1 pretty much all night and haven't been chainsawed once. A few have tried, but unlike their PCP abusing GoW2 counterparts, the shotgun actually makes them lower the chainsaw.

Normally I'd agree, but IMO Microsoft produced Xbox software has been very stable.
