protective coating on stuff?

Ryan

Lifer
My father has had his current cell phone for over 2 years, and he STILL hasn't removed the protective coating that goes over the screen.

Same with their fridge, and washer and dryer - both are like 5 years old! 😕 he says he doens't want the stuff to get damaged...lol

Still have original boxes and packing material for stuff purchased 2 decades ago, but I remove the plastic screen covers on things right away. My digicam still has "features' stickers on it, though.

eww

some of the protective coatings are really nicely put on, they dont' peel at all, but i go out of my way (scratch the surface underneath if i have to) to remove it, i just can't stand something being used the way it wasn't meant to be.

i am the same way... everything i own.. if it came with protective wrap, it is still there.

After a while it just starts to bubble and I can't stand it any more, I need to take it off!

That's how I have discovered some protective coatings. I didn't know they were there until they started bubbling. Then I was a bit disgusted. "What, they can't make a good plastic?" Remove the coating FTW.

I would've left the protective wrap on my new cell phone, but the guy at the store pulled it off before I could say anything.

Yeah, I can't stand the plastic still on. I'd say if you really want to protect it, either take care of it or get a proper casing. I know people who wrap their remote controls at home with clear plastic bags. In fact I even know people who wrap their sofas with plastic. =/

If I had a cell phone with the plastic wrap, I would remove it because the chances are I can just get a new face plate (including transparent LCD cover) for $10 or less.

the remote thing i am pretty sure its a fab, but the sofa thing is another story...

oh i also hope when you say "plastic bags" for the remote, you mean like laminating style, not actually a grocery/trash bag...

I take ALL the stickers/protective coatings off of my gizmos.... it just FEELS better 😉

One of my good friends is NUTS with the leaving-of-stickers-on syndrome. He won't take the "features" off of anything he buys... looks just horrible.

I take it off because it's not going to make that much of a difference.
Also, why would you want to protect a disposable item that's going to be replaced in a couple years anyway?
