I just bought a 2011 WRX. I live in norther minnesota and was wondering if protection package was worth it? I am leaning towards not bothering after talking to some people. Here is what the package would be under coating, rust inhibitor, paint sealant and fabric protection for a low price of 599.99 lol. I figure if I am going to get the car washed 2-3 times a month at a place that does under the car I should be ok.

Also it has been many years since I have followed the car audio scene. Where is a good place to get caught up? the only thing I don't like about the car is the very weak audio system. I would like to upgrade it some maybe even bust out my IDmax out of storage. I am more maybe thinking getting a 2 custom 8 inch subs/amps for under the seats. Looks like they made room under them for a factory sub. At the same time upgrade the factory speakers. If the factory head unit to weak then replace that. I am not sure just need to get education on all the new things.

Don't bother. As you said, just get it washed often at a place that sprays undercarriage.

BTW if all you want was some bass for the stock stereo, you should get the new factory subwoofer when it becomes available. The old one went under the passenger seat and was probably not that great. The new one is a 10" Kicker with 100W amp in a custom molded enclosure that fits in the back, but shouldn't take up much room. Supposedly it will become available in January. If you want to see it, go to the dealer and look at a WRX/STI brochure. It is on the accessories page, underneath the SPT Performance Exhaust System.

Are you enjoying your new WRX? Did you get Winter tires? My wife just ordered a WRX Limited recently (none at local dealers). Will probably be 4-6 weeks before it gets here.

I love my WRX. Only thing not to love is the stereo. It is just not the bass it is over all sound quality. Sadly it is even weaker than the 2005 impala I traded in for it. I have wanted an impreza forever. I was going to get the 2.5 I premium but ended up with a base WRX lol. I was going to order winter tires this weekend but tirerack took 16s off the page for 2011. Going to call them today no need for 17s for winter. Hoping to get somes cheap steal wheels and solid winter tires.

Better get 'em before the first snow. You can do the 17" alternate size 205/50-17 to save about $100 off the cost of 235/45-17 for a set of 4. They are narrower so cheaper, plus supposedly narrow tires are actually better for snow than wider tires (allows them to dig down). Wheels will cost more, but then again, in Minnesota you'll probably be using them for at least 1/3 the year, so may as well have nice looking wheels during that time. Also, can leave out the TPMS for additional cost savings (if you were going to get them). No TPMS just means a light on your dash. No harm, no foul. Just do what people have done for the past century before TPMS became mandatory, and just manually check tire pressure periodically.
