I have an Averatec laptop with a 12.1' screen. I'm quite satisfied with it, BUT, the computer was packed fairly tightly on the last trip and I could see some impressions from the keyboard on the LCD screen.

I can insert a piece of felt or something else between the screen (or, more specifically, the middle part of the screen) and the keyboard but I'm wondering if there are some great solutions for this problem.

I realize I could pack things more loosely or get a case solely for the computer, but is there a product or something else that has been found to be wonderful as a buffer between the LCD screen and the keyboard on a closed laptop?

Get a piece of microfiber cloth and cut it to fit between the LCD and keyboard. Interesting to note that new laptops from H-P come with just such a fabric insert.

While the cloth will help, this is an issue you will have to live with as an Averatec owner. Averatec's are cheap, but come with their drawbacks; this being one of them

i have an averatec and im a student so i have thrown it in my backpack and it has gone through some rough trips. it is the same averatec(same series...the 3000 series) as witling. i do agree with you fdrdphreak that they are a budget laptop but what happened with witling's laptop is not a major problem with the averatecs as far as i know. that is all. lol sorry the averatec fanboy in me came out for a little while. :)

in any case, witling, i hope you've able to find a solution for the problem. good luck.

How about buying some velcro strips and placing them at the corners. It'll help keep the laptop closed, avoid having to place anything on the screen itself and will raise it enough to keep the kb and monitor from touching.

Very good idea!

And faboloso112, I have a buddy who bought an Averatec (don't remember model, 12" Athlon XP) and he had this same problem. Most laptops are susceptible to this issue to a point, but Averatec's moreso due to the cheaper build. Not dissing Averatecs at all, they're great for the money, but you get what you pay for ;)

Thank you all. Darkhawk, your's might be a very good idea. The thing I was cocerned about might be summarized as three alternatives. (1) Inserting a piece of covering that's too thin over the screen (insufficient protection); (2) Inserting a piece of covering that's to thick over the screen (this may aggravate the problem); or (3) Picking the "baby bear" solution and getting something that's "just right." I thought there might be a commercial baby bear solution.

Apparently not, but inserting what amounts to be spacers at the edge of the screen/lid seems to be a great idea.

As an aside on the Averatec, we use this model (3300) solely for traveling but I wondered where they saved money. Apparently some was saved in screen/lid rigidity. I probably still would have bought it, but too bad the reviews don't rate things like this. For the $$$, I'm completely satisfied but I wish a review had mentioned, "Baby that screen, it flexes."

Thank you all. For my purposes, this discussion can be concluded although I'll continue to check it for a while.
