protection error in win98

installed win 98 on a rig i built over the weekend after install it won't boot. "while initializing ptvcd, windows protection error, reboot your computer" it boots to safe mode just fine and i don't know where to look to correct this prob. any ideas would be great. tia, jer

Do you have a PCtel (HSP) modem.. that appears to be a VXD file that is missing or corrupted.. you can download it here.. Download and install or replace the one in the system or try removing the drivers for the modem and search for a later version.
