I want to preserve my laptop battery, so I took the 8 cell out and will store it. I have a Dell Vostro 3350, is there any cover available I can get to protect the battery contacts on the laptop? I don't really want to buy a 4 cell battery because I will keep it plugged in.

I'm not aware of anything like that, so what you could do is buy someone's consumed or failed battery, and then just remove the contacts on that battery, then it acts as a placeholder and ballast until you need the actual battery. So long as it isn't swollen, it should be a cheap and highly effective solution.

Put some scotch tape on them. Or just leave the battery in the laptop and stop worrying about things that don't matter.

Avoid tape - it can leave a sticky residue that is worse than dust. I have had my T510 battery out except for travel for almost 2 years - I do nothing about the contacts and it is not a problem. I'll probably replace the whole unit before it ever becomes one. Not to worry.
