Is it normal to have to wait over 40 minutes to read some protected CDs with CloneCD using a drive like the Iomega 12x10x32 CD-RW?

Depending on your CD-ROM drive it can take up to 24 hours to read some CDs out there loaded with bad sectors. Most drives take an hour or two for most CDs though from my experience which is somewhat limited in this area.

BTW, another software suite that does it too is blindread/blindwrite available here.

I have heard rumors both ways as far as certain drives working and not working at writing in raw mode. I personally have had a plextor writer not work for me. I don't remember what model. It seems that the firmware matters too.

Here is a list of writers that have passed or failed some testing.

:( 2:21 now and only 79%. It was already at 64% at the 40 minute mark. Weird.

With my Plextor 12/10/32 and Clone cd it takes about 20min max to make an image. Depends on the protection, but never more than 20min. Are you guys using the right settings? For instance with a Safedisk 1 protected game are you checking Fast error skip, and intelligent bad sector scanner? With the latest version of Securom just check Read suchannel data form audio/data tracks. Dont know if the latest version of Clonecd can beat Safedisk 2, though. However, this latet protection reeks havoc on some cdrom drives so I think a lot of software companies are not using it. Heck the ones that did usually disabled it in a patch-it caused too many problems-same with securom 2.

i've never used clonecd but heard of it. i use Padus DiskJuggler to burn all my other stuff that adaptec won't burn. i use it for burning self-boot dreamcast games. it also allows you to select the option of raw burning. i just got the program from my friend today and burned over 10 cds...i'm currently copying a game right now w/ my iomega 12/10/32 cdrw i bought 2 days ago.

DiskJuggler is good but by most accounts, if your burner supports it, CloneCd is better.

As for the original poster check here for more info about CloneCd and for any questions. Check the forums and the links on the left too.

For Plextor, Imation/Plextor, Iomega/Plextor, check on FAST ERROR SKIP.

I use clonecd with a mitsumi 4x4x24 burner so the 2x handicap isn't all that bad for its usefulness. Good simple program.

Ah, did not check those 2 settings. Thanks tboo and b0red. Anyway, I burned a copy of the CD that took 2+ hours to read (I think it may have been the tape residue on the bottom of the CD). Is there any way I can verify that the burned copy is exactly the same as the original?

What are the options that need to be checked for copying protected cds (SC3K, etc)? Are the defaults okay or are their certain settings that are pretty much essential? Cheers.
