Anyone know what the "Protect" light on a car amplifier would mean? I'm not sure if it's always on while the amp is powered up, or if it is meant to signify something.
It means your amp is not working right now because you have something wired wrong or the amp is too hot or it could be fried (not sure on the last one).
Also, make sure to check that your ground is making a good connection on BARE metal. I had problems with one of my amps for a while because my ground wire was making a poor connection. Try another amp in your car if you can or try your amp in someone else's car.
kill the ignition/turn off the battery and see if it corrects itself. If it stays on whenever your car is on, you (obviously) aren't feeding any signal to your speakers. Verify the voltage going to your amp and make sure no wires are crossing/arcing (speaker level lines too).
as the above people said, the amp is overheating, or you are trying to draw to small of an ohm load from it, or you have stuff grounding out in/on it...
