What are the pros & cons of copper shims? Putting together a KT7A-RAID, 1g T-bird, Taisol 742, using Arctic Silver II.

Well, if you are VERY careful while attaching the HSF to the CPU, there is no pro to getting the copper shim.

Biggest con is that a customer installed a CPU I had tested for overclocking for him. It was 50MHz short of how sold. We talked about it and he agreed to take out the shim. It was a heat retention issue, but I can't tell you exactly who made it or how it was installed. In the end, he got the 50MHz back, once the shim was removed.

A con would be the shim might be abit higher then the core, causing your heatsink to not even touch the core and resulting in a dead cpu..
