Pros and Cons of not having the nVidia IDE/SATA driver installed?

Are there any major degradation if I choose to not have the nVidia IDE/SATA drivers installed? I noticed that it causes a lot of problems and I think it may be causing problems with my new A8N32-SLI Deluxe system. Anyone have any pros/cons?

If you're referring to the nVidia SW-IDE drivers, I never use them.

In my experiences they're nothing but headaches.

heya Nocturnal-
I have a differnt, but closely related MB. I also had mountains of drive issues, particulary recognition. Switching to windows drivers didn't do much, but switching my C drive cable off of 1 to port 3 has solved all that. Apparently ports 1 an 2 have issues with the main drive.
Might help.

If you have the motherboard install CD with the nVIDIA IDE driver, then just go ahead and uninstall the IDE driver in add/remove programs. If this solves your problem then that's progress. If it doesn't then put the nVIDIA driver back.

Last March, Windows Update would not offer me the express or custom choice to install individual patches. It took me three weeks to discover that uninstalling the nVIDIA IDE driver solved the problem. After I downloaded and patched, I went to the nVIDIA site and downloaded an updated IDE driver. Works perfectly now. I like the nVIDIA IDE driver because it has a built in read speed test.

if you don't have the SATA drivers installed then you can't use advanced features (NCQ etc.).

Personally, I find that they cause more problems than they solve & I stick with the MS IDE.
