Proposed ATPN house rule: no solicitation of donations for any political organizations/causes

Putting this out there for discussion.

Please, no more posts supporting donations to any politically oriented organizations, causes, or personalities. Most of us get enough solicitations on a daily basis as it is, we don't need you begging money for whatever your pet cause is. I don't care what part of the political spectrum you're on, and the forum doesn't need to be turned into a telethon.

Agreed. Only a complete idiot would try such a thing anyway, right? Oh wait.

Edit: Propose you change "Legitimate Charity" to "any charity". No soliciting should be done here, period. IMO, of course. Others are free to disagree. They're idiots, but they can disagree. 😀 j/k

That's up to the individual I guess. Personally, I don't mind occassional, timely, and temporary posts linking to charities efforts for things like disaster relief to help hurricane or earthquake victims. After a tradgedy this is not a huge imposition and not inappropriate IMHO, whereas posts saying "donate to PETA" or other non-emergency charities is a different story.

Slippery slop from "If it's not a legitimate charity we don't wanna see it, don't post it here" to "If we don't wanna see it, don't post it here". 😀

I agree, starting threads for the express purpose of soliciting monies for some political org doesn't lend itself to "discussion".

I agree with the concern, but the solution is simple: if it isn't asking for money, it's not soliciting, and the rule isn't relevent. (Any other forum rules obviously still apply).

I agree

While we are on the subject of "house rules" id like to suggest we create a list of them, in at least an attempt to make discussions civil around here.

Okay, already, I won't be asking you guys to foot my entry fee and air fare to Ironman Lake Placid.

Sheezh, what a bunch of grumpy, stingy REPUBLICAN TYPES.

🙂
