Proposal for new invention:

I'm looking for coffee that still "tastes" like coffee but doesn't have that nasty brown staining color (which gets my clothes and teeth). Yes, I could still take caffeine pills but I want coffee, and stainless colorless would rock. Maybe a clear coffee flavored water that you could heat up with the same amount of caffeine?

It wouldn't taste like coffee though. Much of coffee's flavor comes from Tannic Acid, which is what stains clothes so well.

Pepsi tried this with Crystal Pepsi. If you remember, it tasted like crap.

I think it's something like this...

"Hey Bob, what time is it?"
*Bob rotates arm to check watch, pours hot coffee on self*
"AUUGGHH! Dammit, stop doing that. This is the 4th shirt this week!"

😀

LoL, nah no Parkinson's, sometimes I just accidentally spill it. Maybe I fill up the little white styrofoam cup too much, but if I don't fill it up then I don't get much lol (too cheap to buy a big coffee mug, cups are free at work!). So sometimes I'm in a rush and accidentally spill it on my work papers, or clothing (maybe once a month). Everytime it sux. If coffee was clear I also wouldn't have to worry about brushing my teeth after every drink nor pay for whitening at the dentist someday.

Yuki mentioned that tannic acid gives it its flavor, well why not add it to the new drink yet make it actually taste like coffee? Crystal Pepsi wasn't modeled after a coffee taste so that's not a good comparison. I don't care if tannic acid stains clear, just not BROWN. 😀

Tannic Acid is what makes coffee brown. It's what makes coffee stain brown. Colas do the same, just the Tannic Acid content is much lower.

You don't understand...

Tannic acid is the "base" substance. It is brown. You can't take anymore away from it without creating another, different substance.

Or at least nobody has bothered to find out how.

Or if they have, it has no practical purpose, or it sucked, or something.

So let me get this straight, you won't spend $1 for a mug at the dollar store nor bring a mug from home, but you'd rather take the effort to clean up spills, reprint work papers and PAY EVEN MORE at the dentist to get your teeth whitened?

Last thing doesn't work. He'll be at the dentist regardless. Other points are valid.

I must be the only person that actually liked Crystal Pepsi. 🙁

Do NOT touch my espresso!!!! 🙂

Seriously, in all my coffee drinking years I think I've only had a few spills, and those were in the car.

Ok, so tannic acid cannot be made clear. I guess that ends the discussion? Too bad they can't make something taste like tannic acid, yet make it clear, it would be the answer to all of our coffee stains.
