I am installing a light on the top of my closet and the power source is inside, so I will be running a small surface mount conduit from inside the closet to come then go in the wall and to the power source (a receptacle). So the wire is basically going to go from being in a conduit, to going inside the wall. What is the proper way to transition the wire entering the wall? Is it as simple as patching over it, or would I need to use some kind of special connector of some sort, like when a wire enters an electrical panel?

The line going straight down is actually inside the wall. The rest is surface mounted.

I know the proper way would be to run it all inside the drywall, but I don't want to be doing huge drywall work in a living space, too much dust, not to mention all my clothes are in that closet. Trying to keep the drywall work to a minimum.

Is there an attic above this space? That would make things a little easier if so.

you dont really need anything, hard to tell what you are doing but you could use wire mold instead of conduit.

Actually yeah I'm using a wire mold, guess conduit was not the best word. There is an attic but rather not go up there in middle of winter, and it's very tight up there, it's a low pitch roof so there's insulation nearly to the top. Guess that would be a better way of doing it.

What I decided to do is wrap a bit of duct tape around the wire just for extra protection and as well as around the edges of the wire mold and just make the wire mold go to the other end of the drywall. I'll put a wire staple just inside the conduit to secure the wire, but it's such a tight wire it aint going anywhere regardless.

romex wire is fine without any covering so I think you will be fine, use electrical wire instead of duct tape if you want professional respect though :)

Finished up the project. Ended up making the conduit go into the drywall and it terminates flush with the other side. Made sure there's no sharp edges and also stapled the wire inside the conduit (kinda hard to swing a hammer inside that tiny hole I made, so did it outside). That cable ain't going anywhere even if it's pulled on somehow.
