Proper way to damage a video card - EVGA - Won't RMA my video card

I have an EVGA 8600GTS that is still under warranty. About 5 weeks ago, I started getting tons of artifacts and the video card would just shut off completely. I do not over clock, I have excellent air flow in the case and have no problems with any other hardware. Another video card of mine works just fine in my machine.

I RMA'ed it to EVGA. They received it, told me nothing was wrong and sent it back. The problem came back. I sent it back again telling them to look again. They sent it back again.

So now I have just about had it with them. How can I properly take this card out of commission so it just doesn't power on at all (without showing signs of me damaging it) so they will replace the dang thing.

XFX would have taken care of my on the spot.

I know this sounds shitty....but what other choice do I have? I have even sent them VIDEO and PICTURES, yet they still believe the card is fine. I am pretty sure they are NOT testing it....

This IS fraud which means you always have other choices.

He said he tried another video card.

I wouldn't recommend damaging the card on purpose, even though they are being really bad with refusing RMA.

You could overclock the shit out of it and take the cooler off. That might do the trick :D

But can't they tell that you overclock it and "removed" the HSF?

Why would I be banned.....come on now. I don't like this either....but I paid for a product and warranty. The card has been tried in 3 other machines and does the same thing to all.....

No offense, but it's not your life we're talking about, it's a video card.
Just buy another one, and never buy from EVGA in the future. It sucks that they won't listen to you, but don't be an ass just because they're being asses.

And yes, it would be fraud.

Don't take the cooler off. Set the fan to manual adjustment, set the fan speed to 0, then overclock the shit out of it, and hope for the best.

Intentionally damaging the card so you can collect on the warranty IS fraud. Plain and simple.

Does the situation suck? Yes. But it'd still be fraud.

One good fraud deserves another. EVGA is fraudulent by not honoring their warranty. If they can't keep to the terms, the consumer shouldn't either.

If they're testing a card (repeatedly) and it runs within factory parameters with their tests... then EVGA is doing their job.

Have you been to the forums on their site ?
If not go there and post your problem, be polite, don't act like a jerk. They have customer reps that monitor the boards who can usually do more than the standard email reps.

I have never had a problem with EVGA. They even replaced a failing card with one that cost almost %50 more.

Nuke it from orbit. If EVGA has really ticked you off, send them the card first, then nuke it from orbit.

He never said what other video card he used, though. For all we know it could be a 6200LE.

Here is his system:

* Cooler Master Elite 330
* Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G motherboard
* AMD X2 AM2 5600+
* 4GB Kingston ValueRam (4x1gb)
* EVGA 8600GTS 512MB video card
* Seagate 500gb sata
* 2X Dell E207WFP 20" WS LCD
* CoolerMaster RP-550-PCAR 550wt PSU
* Logitech DiNovo Keyboard
* Logitech MX Revolution Mouse
* Onboard LAN/HD Audio
* Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

I would say it could easily be the PSU.

EVGA is great. They wouldn't send the video card back to you twice without throughly testing it. Sounds like the issue is still with your pc or more likely a driver issue.

I would also delete this thread before you get banned.

Sounds kinda fishy that NOW you are also claiming you've tried it in 3 machines and it does the same thing...yet no mention of THAT partcular troubleshooting in the OP.

I recall from my beta testing days with ATI that I was told by the engineers that a large % of returned graphics hardware tests out perfectly fine on the test benches, I'm talking >80%. There are so many variables when it comes to individual windows PC's and various hardware and drivers (and hacked drivers) and hardware utilities...it makes it difficult to troubleshoot....and graphics cards are probabl the worst.

Artifacts comes from overheating and/or voltage issues for the most part. I'd say its very possible they are testing your card every time with the same result (it works fine on the testbed) Something is triggering the artifacting and their testing isn't able to reproduce the issue. I'm not sure why they are being obtuse about just replacing the card, but likely because they are thinking that the issue will remain unresolved.

I took pictures of the screen shots + added text description for my RMA with EVGA. No problems.

Have you tried torturing with 3dMarks?
