Proper way of moving applications from one machine to another

I have been tryiing to Ghost image this machien for a while, and dumping this machine to a brand new P4 dell, but the HAL's are totally different. I am getting the Boot Inaccessible blue screen, so i am resorting to installing the basic OS separately.

Is there any applications out there for moving applications along with the associated registry keys from first to the second machine? The end user has about 20 percent of the installation media.

I would install the Ghosted image and then re-install the OS over the top. The re-installation should save the registry values for the installed programs.
