I tip 20% if the service is solid. It goes down from there depending on the level of service I receive. I don't have that high of standards for service so you really have to screw up to get less than 15%.

If the service is good, I give 18-20%. I'm not hard to please. They have to really suck for me to give less than 15%.

Servers start with 15% as the expected tip. How much they actually get depends on the service. It may go up to over 20%, or down to 2 cents.

I've tipped as high as 60%, and I'm not afraid to leave without tipping. Depends on the service.

10% for minimal service, 15% for decent service, 20%+ for great service.

One penny for truly crappy service, just so the server knows I didn't forget.

i range from 15-25% total bill price notwithstanding. i dont tip less if the bill is astronomically high, but i do tend to tip more if the bill is tiny (2 beer, give a buck).

Oh great, it's this thread again.

You know what the proper tip amount is? Whatever you feel their service is worth. YOU judge the worth, not us.

Fuck, people, figure shit out on your own. Think they deserve a couple bucks extra? Give 'em a couple bucks. Think they don't deserve a damn thing? Don't give them a damn thing.

Your math confuses me. You give $1 as a tip for two beer, and claim that's a higher tip than usual. How much do you pay a for a beer if that accounts for 25% or more of your bill?

Servers usually make only ~$2.25/hr, and that hasn't changed for as long as I can remember. The bulk of their income comes from tips.

The service has to really suck for me to give < 15%.

Where'd you pull this bullshit from? I used to be a server, and I've known more throughout my life, and no one made that little. Not even close.

In fact, when I was a server I was making minimum wage just like everyone else.

Um, I waited tables for 10 years, in several states, so I call bullshit on your bullshit. If you were making minimum wage + tips you were extremely lucky.

That reminds me of how much I hate the way tipping is looked at. I was in Montreal at a bar and it was $9 a beer (bottled). I'd give them a $10, which I thought was generous considering I was getting raped already. All they have to do is grab the bottle and open it for me. Hell, just give me the bottle and I'll open it myself.

But what happened? I was threatened with being cut off for not tipping enough.

Holee fuck.

my math is wrong 😛 i'm tired tonight, several 12 hour days in a row now.

anyways, for a $2 beer i'll tip $1, for food i'll tip the 15-25%. actually i like how they do it in europe where you dont tip for beer, would make the bar scene better imo.

Hell yeah these threads rule. Someone always starts an argument and people get pissed. Come on people let's get this started.
