Proper Tbird Installation Review

Since I became a member of this forum, it's been a godsend in selecting and comparing hardware for purchase. So, I made the choice for my first system that I hope to build.

MSI K7T Pro2-a
1 Ghz Tbird
AMD Approved HCF up to 1.2 Ghz

Of course, I've order a case, sound card, yadda yadda yadda, the usual assortment. All of this is on it's way, and should be here Tuesday, courtest of http://www.mwave.com .

Obviously, I'm new at all of this, but I do have a good general idea of what I am doing. It doesn't hurt to ask for help and clarification, which is what I am doing now. 🙂

I get my Tbird out of the box, and the motherboard will already be mounted in the case. What are some important things I should remember when installing the processor? Keep in mind that I am not looking to OC anything right now.

A few questions that have run across my mind:

1) I've heard tell of a thermal pad that I should remove. What's the story on that?

2) Proper mounting of the HCF? Note that this is your everyday HCF, not a SuperOrb of something of that caliber.

Based on YOUR experience, what's the best route to go in installing this processor. I won't take any offense if you respond to me like I'm a 2nd grader. 😉

The listing says:

AMD RECOMMENDED COOLING FAN FOR THUNDERBIRD K7 & DURON PROCESSOR W/3 PIN CONNECTOR (SUPPORT UP TO 1.1GHZ)

9 bucks, plus I needed something to start with anyways.

You don't have to remove a possible thermal pad if you don't want to overclock and the HSF is approved by AMD for your CPU. But be sure your case is cool.
I can't comment on the HS installation issues because almost every HS is different in this category...
