Proper Heatsink Installation?

I got a Tbird 700 Oced to 950. I have arctic silver. I have a FOP38-1. What is the exact way to install this so that nothing screws up?
 
I have the FOP32-1, which is the same heatsink that you have, only with a smaller fan. Anyway, first i put some heatsink compound on the die of the cpu (i assume you know how to do that and have already acquired some, if you haven't, you can get it at radioshack). Now attach the clip to the nub on the far side of the socket. Then use a screwdriver to push on the opposite side of the clip, since it takes so much force that it can hurt your fingers terribly. Then simply use your other hand to move the clip into place while you use the screwdriver to push it down. That should work fine, it worked for me anyway!

I have the arctic silver thermal compound. Should I remove the default CPU adhesive? Should I take out the pads or add a copper shim? Any details?
 
I would take off the little pad on the heatsink, at least i did, and saw an improvement with simple radioshack thermal compound. i assume arktic silver is superior to that. As far as the copper shim, somebody told me that the shim wouldn't do much good since everything on the exposed top of the cpu is silicon except the die, so the shim won't help you much. However, that's just what i heard, so you might want to ask around. However, i would go with the arctic silver1

Copper Shims do not increase cooling performance. In fact, it does the exact opposite(albiet only be a little bit).

Why: Copper is a conductor. The CPU pcb is heat-resistant Ceramic. The Shim contacts a hot point(the heatsink base) and transfers some of this heat to the pCB, resulting slightly warmer Core temps.

I'd assume we should do all the overclocking changes to the CPU before sticking it on with the adhesive?
 
TempT what are you asking? Get processor and HSF. Scrape off thermal pad and clean so no residue is left. Put some thermal compound (artic silver or radio shack if you're cheap) on the core or the bottom of HSF. Put HSF on CPU. Push down the blasted clip and don't put a hole in your motherboard, this is really the trickiest part. Then o/c in the bios by playing with the voltage, multiplier, and FSB.
 
errr...not adhesive...I mean the thermal compound. I meant I should do all the unlock the amd stuff before putting on the heatsink. Right?
