You mean lying to justify pursuing a war costing thousands of lives, saddling us with terrabucks of debt we'll be paying for generations, chumming Haliburton and the rest of their wealthy buddies and contributors and criminally abusing prisoners wasn't enough to come to that conclusion? :Q

The public should not be the least bit surprised about the incongruous combination of a gay person and the conservatives in Washington. The Log Cabin Republicans will be silent on this issue, just as all gay rights groups are when there is bad news.

Whenever there is a scandal involving gays or those suspected of being gay, these pro rights crowds go into hiding. Instead of "don't ask, don't tell", it's more like, "not us, not now".

Seems gay prostitutes need defending but straight females that brag of their sexual activity get fired.

But, I suppose it's to be expected given the Reagan/Bush years activities. More here

And this ^^ my friends must be a GOP talking point on the Gannon scandal. I think I've heard just about every conservative, wanna-be rightie and our local closet conservative/parody fraudster parroting more-or-less this exact phrase over the past week. Way to go, everyone's on message!

I don't know if anyone has read this yet but here is an article from Hulabaloo on the right wing world class gay flip-flop the White House is trying with all its might to pull off.

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2005_02_13_digbysblog_archive.html#110868059649694162">
Who Are They Kidding?</a>

Also a link to a story from the right wing wacko WorldNet Daily that is particularly enlightening. If I'm not mistaken the story below was reported while the White House's own gay embed was lobbing softballs and perhaps playing with McLellan and Rove's balls at the very same time.

What a bunch of filthy hypocrites. And to think they actually believe no one sees through all of their childish charades.

White House blacklisting Canadian ABC reporter?

Posted: July 20, 2003
1:00 a.m. Eastern

A Canadian-born correspondent for ABC News is the reported target of a White House smear campaign after broadcasting a story on plummeting U.S. troop morale in Iraq, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Published reports suggest the Bush administration retaliated by notifying Internet news sites and other media outlets that Jeffrey Kofman is not only Canadian but also an openly "gay" man.

A headline on Matt Drudge's website Wednesday evening read: ''ABC News correspondent who filed troop complaints story is openly gay, Canadian.''

Drudge also provided a link to a profile of Kofman in The Advocate, a gay-issues magazine.

Despite White House denials, Drudge told the Washington Post he received a phone call from the White House communications department tipping him off to the information on Kofman, reports the Toronto Globe and Mail.

Critics of Kofman's report seized upon the Drudge headline and pointed to the reporters nationality as an explanation for why he would file "unpatriotic" reports from Iraq, according to the Citizen.

Kofman filed a report on ABC World News Tonight on Tuesday noting that morale among U.S. troops stationed in Iraq is plunging. Several of the interviewed soldiers complained about the war and the length of time they've spent in Iraq.

One U.S. soldier, upset about having his tour of duty extended indefinitely, said Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld should resign.

After the report aired, the Pentagon said the soldiers who had spoken out would be disciplined.

''None of us that wear this uniform are free to say anything disparaging about the Secretary of Defense or the President of the United States,'' General John Abizaid, the head of U.S. Central Command, told ABC News.

The television network stood by the report.

''This is a reporter who has done an outstanding job for us, his report was fair and accurate and reflected the truth of what soldiers are feeling,'' ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider told the Citizen.

The White House dismissed the reports of a smear campaign against Kofman. Several media reports quoted a spokesman as saying ''this is the first we've heard of it, and it would be totally inappropriate if true.''

''When you take a job in the United States in the public eye, that goes with the territory,'' Kofman told the Globe and Mail. ''I tried to hide the Canadian-ness. I guess the old O-U-T word caught up with me."

Kofman says he's willing to believe the White House denial of involvement in the incident.

''I'm going to take the White House at face value and accept the comments that they made, which is that this is the first that they've heard of it and if it did happen then it was totally inappropriate,'' he told the Toronto paper.

The negative publicity generated by Kofman's report isn't a first for ABC News.

After the Sept. 11 attacks, the network was the target of an e-mail campaign by critics of its decision to forbid on-air reporters from wearing lapel pins with U.S. flags on them, says the Citizen.

Wow...great find, BBond!

It's ok to be gay and even a gay prostitute as long you whore yourself out for Bush. Hell, they'll even throw in some free access to top-secret information!

Then I got a personal contact from Jeff Gannon himself. He offered a brief, unsolicited email critique of my work on a story about rumors of voter-registration skullduggery in Pennington County. Conservative Web runners were pushing that as a Democratic deal. I was interested in that notion, but found no evidence to make a clear connection in print.

Gannon apparently grew impatient with my work, at least that?s how I took this portion of his email: ?Get off your butt and do your job.?

Now, that?s always good advice. But I couldn?t help but wonder what he thought my job was. That became pretty clear recently when I watched Jeff Gannon lob an outrageously ingratiating softball to President Bush during a news conference on C-SPAN.

Jeff Gannon was clearly doing his job, as he sees it. That?s fine, as long as people don?t confuse his job with mine.

Gannon was apparently heavily involved in working to smear Kerry. When he wasn't busy doing that, he was busy writing for a blog paid for by Thune's campaign in attempts to smear Daschle.

Is this really breaking news? I think we all knew abou Shock and Awe about 24 hours before it happened.

Wasnt like Bush made it a secret when it would happen. It was pretty much on time. Something that rarely happens when it comes to the govt.

More on Gannon, or whatever his name is, and his methods of distributing information he could only have had one way of getting.

Pillow talk. ;)

Radio Producer Could Always Count on 'Gannon' for Tips

By Joe Strupp

Published: February 18, 2005

San Antonio radio producer Susan Farris could always count on James Guckert, a.k.a. former White House correspondent Jeff Gannon, to pitch an appearance on the shows she produces at conservative talk station KTSA.

He was not only anxious about pushing his story of the day, but seemed to always have some kind of inside knowledge about the White House, as well.

"I said, 'How do you have such great sources?' and he just laughed it off," she told E&P Friday. "Now we all know how."

Farris, who has worked in San Antonio radio for more than a decade, said she came across Guckert first at GOPUSA.com, then later read his work on Talon News, his online home prior to his recent resignation. "I would call [GOPUSA] for people to use on the air and they suggested him when I asked about White House coverage," she recalled. "They called themselves a re-write service. They would take other people's work and put it up on their site." (Among the charges against Guckert was that he often simply rewrote White House press releases as news stories.)

Guckert, she said, frequently passed on what he clearly thought was insider information, during his 12 appearances on KTSA during 2003 and 2004. She first heard from him the expression "shock and awe" to refer to the massive U.S. bombing attack at the start of the Iraq war, and he fingered Mary Mapes as the producer of the so-called "Rathergate" segment on "60 Minutes" before she had seen that mentioned elsewhere.

"He very often called me and offered to be on the show to talk about his stories," she said. "I used to book him all the time. We used him on tons of White House stuff." She said she "had no idea" that Gannon was not Guckert's real name.

So people should go easy on this guy, because he is gay? Lol.

Perhaps the focus should be on his crime and not his sexual orientation.

For someone who supports a group that claimed to bring "honor and integrity back to the White House", you Bush-God fanbois are sure wrapped in delusion and apologetics.

But, then again, I wouldn't expect someone lacking of moral fiber to see the real story here: a fake reporter having access to top-level information. Can you say, National Security Breach?
The real story may be that, but the "Gay" issue just seems to pop up, doesn't it?
Nothing I can do about that. But, it may lead to why he was allowed into the WH press corps as far back as Nov. 2002 and had access to top-level information.

Or, are you trying to defend prostitution now?

No, just marveling at how the tides wash!

Well, a lot of people died that were on his team under mysterious circumstances, there was Waco, There was the lying under oath, demolishing the military, stratifying the Intel community, broadcasting an image of a weak and venerable America, etc.

Waco: Debatable
Lying Under Oath: No law broken, not purgery
Demolishing the Military: Even Bush said we don't need a large military (2nd Presidential Debate) ... try again
Stratifying the Intel: Seems we have more bureaucracy in the Intelligence Community than ever before.
Weak and venerable America: Hmm... booming economy, time of peace, respected around the world. Yeah, that's weak.

Please Condor, stop your inane ramblings.

I have no idea how a nation can be weak AND venerable unless weakness is a desirable quality.

The ridiculous right wing garbage about murder and assassination in the Clinton White House doesn't even deserve a response.

Cheney, as has been posted here many times, admitted and took responsibility for the draw down of the U.S. military. It was a different time. The end of the Cold War.

Clinton lied under oath in response to a question that never should have been asked. Do you really defend the $70 million the Republicans wasted on a wild goose chase ending up as a case against a guy who cheated on his wife with a consenting adult?

I don't know about stratifying the intel community since that began before Clinton's term as well. If you have any info you'd like to share to illustrate your point please do.

Well, you could read the report or look back at the 9/11 hearings. One of the Dems on the committee was the author of the regulations that divided the community.

Well, Ganon is a gay individual, behaving in an unethical manner. But what would you like gay rights groups to say about him? And why? Just because he is gay, doesn't mean gay people, or pro-gay rights folks, support his behavior.

BTW John Aravosis (americablog), one of the people who played a role in exposing Gannon, is gay. The idea that gay people are silent on this issue is not correct.
