Surprise! Surprise! Just like W, the Gannon/Guckert/Gosch has something to hide about hit military record!

NO Military Service for Gannon/Guckert
http://www.globalnewsmatrix.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=67

Posted on Thursday, March 24 @ 15:59:18 EST by Drew

National NO Military Service for Gannon/Guckert Fake name. Fake reporter. Fake news agency. And now this ...

Fake Marine.

First, we went to the Military Personnel Records of the National Personnel Records Center at St. Louis, Missouri, the supposed repository of all military records.

No record showed, but the official letter hemmed and hawed and scraped its military-booted feet so much, kinda sorta explaining that they're often ... well ... ummm ... screwed up ... and that we should check directly with the United States Marine Corps at Quantico. You know, just to ... ummm ... make sure.

So we did, in this email correspondence:

From SusanG: DATE SUBMITTED: Friday, 3/11/2005 at 11:08 am EST

QUESTION TOPIC: Records created by the United States military

QUESTION TEXT: 11 March 2005

Re: GUCKERT, James D. SSN: ###-##-#### Request: 1-292301414 Date: 2 March 2005

A letter was sent pursuant to the FOIA requesting information on the above named subject. He claims to have served in the USMC, E-4. He further claims that his status is "Inactive Reserve/Guard not drilling."

The return letter indicated no records located [in St. Louis]. We are attempting to confirm this.

Answer to SusanG:

From: Amando Nunez Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2005 7:33 AM Subject: Re: Records created by the United States military

We could not locate a record from the information provided. If the veteran's record is not yet retired to our Center it wouldn't show up in our system. Also, if the veteran served in the Marine Corps after 1996 that record may not yet be retired to our Center. You may want to contact the office shown below. I do not have a telephone number for this office.

Commandant, U.S. Marine Corps (MMSB-10) Personnel Management Support Branch 2008 Elliot Road, Room 203 Quantico, VA 22134-5030

You may come into the Research Room but it takes approximately 2 hours to have the record searched. The Research is open from 7:30 - 3:45. If you arrive after 1:45 the record will be searched the following day.

Amando R. Nunez Lead Archives Technician, Core V, Team D National Personnel Records Center National Archives and Records Administration Phone: (314) 801-0821 Fax: (314) 801-0764

This question was submitted via the Main Inquire Form by a user of the NARA web site.

Now if it turns out that both the St. Louis Personnel Office AND the United States Marine Corps are so screwed up they can't keep track of someone on legitimate inactive reserve status, we would love to take the opportunity to post PDF files of Mr. Guckert's military service - hey, there's a story in itself, right? God help us in Iraq, though, if this proves to be the case.

And if anyone near Quantico wants to spend two hours sitting in the research room waiting to get yet further information that there are no records on Corporal Guckert, knock yourself out. Let me know if you come up with something. It's taken me two months to get this far with two agencies, and frankly, I've had my fill of bureaucracy.

All Righty, Then. Let's Review!

"In many circles, I have become known as "the conservative guy". Some people don't even remember my name because I am an average type guy. I've been a preppie, a yuppie, blue-collar, green-collar and white-collar. I've served in the military ...

.

And from military.com via Philly Online (registration required for military.com):

James D Guckert Rank: E-4 Corporal Service: Marine Corps Status: Inactive Res/Guard (not drilling)

And then there's the marketing of "Bulldog," aka "Jeff" aka James D. Guckert, on numerous escort sites turned up by Americablog last month:

When asked what USMCPT meant, Paul said he asked Jeff that very question. The answer: United States Marine Corps, Part Time. Paul recalls Jeff telling him he was still in the Marines, but only part time.

Ex-USMC Jock: Available for hourly, overnight, weekend or longer travel - OUT ONLY!

The Male Corps link takes you to another of Jeff's escort pages, housed on a different escort service Web site called MaleCorps.com. The page contains the same spread-eagle picture that was on Jeff's personal site, notes that his branch of service is "United States Marine Corps,"

In earlier review, dated 7/11/2000, is from a man who says he's an active duty senior officer in the US Army. He notes that Jeff has a Marine background.

So it seems Mr. Guckert has some explaining to do, not only to flag-waving conservatives who bought into his fictional life on his conservativeguy.com site, but to clients who may have availed themselves of his escort services when he was posing as a Marine.

Which brings up the interesting question: Can those who make use of internet escort sites sue for false advertising? Hmmmm ....

And as to the loophole in the USMC email about service after 1996 ... Let's just say we can guarantee that this particular "veteran" wasn't serving in the Marine Corps after that year. What was he doing? Well, that story is, as they say, ... developing.... SOURCE: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/24/111751/735

Now Gannon and 9/11! This is getting crazier and crazier!

http://www.libertythink.com/2005/02/gannon-paymaster-key-911-pentagon.html
Gannon paymaster key 9/11 Pentagon 'witness'

"Now, this is rich. One of the most vivid "eyewitnesses" for the official storyline that American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon is none other than Bobby Eberle, the founder of GOPUSA and Talon News; the man who paid to put Jeff Gannon in the White House."

Blog: Guckert/Gannon non-profit/GOP link
http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20050331-021816-8778r.htm
Washington, DC, Mar. 31 (UPI) -- Former Talon News White House correspondent J.D. Guckert reportedly is implicated in falsely registering a political organization as a non-profit.

The Weblog dailyKos.com reported Thursday that Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon, who quit his job for the online publisher Talon News after media reports tied him to gay online prostitution and Republican Party operatives, was registered as the executive director of an organization called the Free Speech Foundation.

The Free Speech Foundation was registered as a tax-exempt non-profit with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under code 501(c)(3), which prohibits the organizations from participating in or funding political activities.

Despite this, dailyKos.com charged, the organization was used to fundraise for a pro-Bush Web site, ProBush.com, that was facing a $5 million libel suit for naming an Arab-American senator on its ongoing "Traitor List."

LEAKED: Dems' scathing rebuke on Gannon inaction
http://www.rawstory.com/
"It is an unfortunate fact of life that we have an Administration that is all too willing to flaunt the law, and a Republican-controlled Congress that refuses to investigate even the most serious ethical transgressions. Whether it is torture at Abu Ghraib, sole source contracts with Haliburton, or the outing of a CIA operative, this Congress has been unwilling and unable to ask the hard questions or issue the difficult subpoenas. The... failure to request even the most cursory of information regarding Mr. Gannon... represents a disturbing continuation of this trend, and illustrates the ongoing problem of one-party rule in Washington..." Full eight-page dissent forthcoming soon...

Homeland Security: 'We're still looking for Gannon credentialing'
http://rawstory.com/exclusives/byrne/ho..._security_responds_jeff_gannon_404.htm
The Department of Homeland Security has responded to two Democratic members of Congress who requested for information relevant to the credentialing of a discredited White House correspondent, but say they have yet to locate the relevant documents, RAW STORY has learned.

More at the link but, if they move along at the speed with which other investigations have gone, we'll be looking at this come the '08 elections.

Re: www.jeffgannon.com

I guess the bald little fraud has no venue for his propoganda, er "questions" for the administration so he has to ask them to the ether while whoring for Paypal donations? I wonder what it's like to hit rock bottom like that? Awwwww, how sad. :(

For sh!ts and giggles I recommend reading the transcript. There was alot of discussion about Gannongate. It was interesting to watch Jim/Jeff getting grilled by the other panelists and watching him squirm. :)

Not much. When questioned if he was Johnny Gosch he diverted and didn't answer. Either he is and is afraid to admit or he's just playing up his 15 min. of fame.

'Gannon' Appears at National Press Club, Draws Heat

NEW YORK More than two months after he resigned as the White House correspondent for right-leaning Talon News, James Guckert -- also known as Jeff Gannon -- was back in the spotlight this morning as part of a panel at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

When the panel ended at 11 a.m. after the alotted 90 minutes, heated questions were still flying from the audience and moderator Rick Dunham of the Press Club told the audience members to seek out panel members afterward.

The panel had closed with Gannon refusing to say, under repeated questioning, how long it had taken him to get his credentials to the White House, something for which others have had to fight. Another panelist, Matthew Yglesias of The American Prospect, commented: "I have a hard time believing that you don't have a recollection of how long it took you to get access to the White House."

Gannon replied: "I guess they felt it was my turn."

Although often under attack, Gannon rarely raised his voice, although at one point he boomed, "I'm not the one who was waving documents at the president saying, 'Hey you were not serving your time in the Texas National Guard!'"

However, as many critics of the Press Club's addition of Gannon to the panel feared, he may have gained stature, in some eyes, simply by appearing at the Club on a serious journalism panel.

Later, on his own blog, Gannon/Guckert claimed that "at the conclusion of the event, an activist created such a spectacle that I left the room immediately with security. Otherwise, I would have remained to talk to members of the press. As I was boarding an elevator to exit the building, this same person made a dash for me with unknown intent. I have been informed that he subsequently had an altercation with a member of building security and has been banned from the premises."

Dressed in conservative jacket and tie, Gannon in his opening remarks took on the topic of the panel, "Who Is a Journalist," this way: "There are various professional groups who have established themselves by default, because no one else wants to, to be the gatekeepers, and they have very specific criteria. But, within that criteria, which admittedly is outdated, I've found myself.

"We operate under the illusion of an objective media, but we have all seen, at least in the last election, that the objective media is an ideal that we no longer reach. You see a whole new group of journalists, bloggers, who have been the source of a tremendous amount of information, correct or incorrect, that credentialed journalists and mainstream media have used. That phenomenon is going to have to be dealt with in the future."

The first three questions from the moderator went to Gannon. He asked Gannon (real name Guckert) why he thinks he got credentialed when others did not, especially since he operated under an alias. Gannon said he went through the process that anyone could have gone through. He said he has never been a political activist, and pointed to George Stephanopoulos, who had worked for President Clinton, as someone who is now treated as a journalist.

As questions continued, Gannon said the administration had to pay Armstrong Williams to get a fair hearing on its No Child Left Behind education policy. "I don't think anyone wrote a story that was positive on No Child Left Behind," he said.

Yglesias countered: "That is not true, I have written fair articles on No Child Left Behind; it has gotten a fair hearing. I kind of wish I had gotten paid since I wrote fair articles about it."

Another panelist, Wonkette's Ana Marie Cox, said she could not believe such a defense of Armstrong Williams: "I have heard that he is not a real journalist, but I have never heard that defense of Armstrong Williams."

Gannon replied: "I was about the only news source providing that information without a filter. There is nothing wrong with reporting what the administration says about a particular issue. ... Why does everything have to be looked at through a lens that represents every point of view?"

When a questioner from the audience asked if Gannon's illegal activities -- a clear reference to his purported work as a male escort -- made him worried about prosecution, he replied: "You are speaking of things that have been alleged and I am not commenting on those things, they have nothing to do with my reporting and I did not come here to speak about those things."

Earlier, Wonkette's Cox had said, referring to the question of who's-a-journalist: "I hope we are able to move this discussion away from this. The only time it is a question that is relevant is when the law or space is an issue, when there are only enough seats on Air Force One. There is a long tradition of non-credentialed press, you don't have to go to school to be a journalist." She cited Tom Paine as an example, adding that she hoped this would be the last panel she sat on that took up this issue.

But Yglesias of the American Prospect, who also blogs, said: "I think a lot of people have the feeling that [Gannon's] case doesn't really fall into the boundaries of gray area where you would have to think about it. There are some behaviors that are clearly not a question of journalism."

At another point, Cox said: "One of the reasons that Jeff got in [to the White House] is that many of the reporters do not go because the briefings are a joke, they do not tell you anything. It is kind of empty. I think it would be awesome if bloggers stormed the briefing room and started asking questions. If more people appeared naked in the briefing room, it would be entertaining."

Sitting on the panel, Gannon joined a wide-ranging group, including bloggers Cox and Graff; John Stanton of Congress Daily, who also has written for National Journal; and Yglesias.

Also on the panel: Julie Davis from The Sun of Baltimore, chair of the Standing Committee of Correspondents on Capitol Hill, which oversees congressional press credentials and denied Gannon a pass last year.

Almost immediately after the panel was scheduled, opposition to Gannon's appearance at the highly respected journalism center started. Critics from both mainstream and online news outlets contended that he should not appear before the club on a journalism panel, since his credentials in that field were weak and he had also apparently worked as a male escort. They claimed his appearance only boosted his credibility and hurt the club's.

Due to the heightened interest in the event, NPC officials allowed only club members, reporters with press credentials, and bloggers who can show proof of their online site to attend.

I'm really interested to see what Jim/Jeff had to say about the event, but I can't get passed the willies I get when typing JeffGannon.com. Ewww, it just happened again! ;)

In what is unlikely to stem the controversy surrounding disgraced White House correspondent James Guckert, the Secret Service has furnished logs of the writer's access to the White House after requests by two Democratic congressmembers.

The documents, obtained by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) through a Freedom of Information Act request, reveal Guckert had remarkable access to the White House. Guckert made 202 appearances at the White House during his two-year tenure with the fledging conservative websites GOPUSA and Talon News, attending 155 of 196 White House press briefings.

Well, with the "no exits" and "unusually long" visits, can't help but wonder what sort of "service" he was providing to Rove and McClellan.

Remember how it was discussed that Gannon knew about "Shock and Awe" before it happened?

House members call on White House press secretary for more answers on 'Gannon'
http://rawstory.com/exclusives/byrne/slaughter_conyers_gannon_response_425.htm
Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI issued a letter Monday afternoon to White House press secretary Scott McClellan calling for more answers to their continuing investigation into how discredited conservative reporter "Jeff Gannon" got access to the President, RAW STORY has learned.

The letter was written after a review of documents released to Rep. Slaughter and Conyers by the Secret Service, first published on RAW STORY. The records showed that "Gannon," who previously or was currently working as a male escort, was given access on more than 200 occasions to the White House.

According to the members' review, Gannon logged 196 entries; RAW STORY's review found Gannon sometimes entered on more than one day and on fourteen occasions failed to check out.*

The letter to McClellan follows.

###

LETTER TO SCOTT McCLELLAN:

April 25, 2005

Scott McClellan
Assistant to the President and Press Secretary
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. McClellan,

We write to ask you to identify who in your office, or in the White House generally, gave Mr. James Guckert a.k.a. "Jeff Gannon" virtually unfettered access to the White House. In reviewing the response to our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the Department of Homeland Security several of our specific concerns were validated. While your office and the White House have claimed Gannon was treated as just another reporter, the records we have obtained affirm that Gannon was granted access to the White House which appears to be unusual for any reporter. Out of concern for not only security, but also avoiding White House dissemination of propaganda, we request an explanation to the following:

1. The Department of Homeland Security's records indicate that Mr. "Gannon" entered the White House Complex 196 times in the past two years. He attended 155 of the 196 press conferences held at the White House in the two year period. This is disconcerting considering that your office and "Mr. Gannon" have maintained that his access was sporadic. At what point is a "hard pass" required?

2. The records show that Mr. "Gannon" was allowed access to the White House 38 times when no public press events occurred. He also spent hours in the White House both before and after press events took place. With whom did he meet on those occasions and what was the subject matter of those meetings?

3. On 13 occasions there is a record where he checked in with security, but is never registered as leaving the White House complex. How do you explain this?

4. Your Media Assistant, Lois Cassano, requested a total of 48 day passes for Mr. "Gannon" which helped facilitate his access for nearly 200 times over the last two years. It is nearly impossible that she would have made Gannon such a priority without direction from a supervisor. Would you like to revise your claim that, "I don't involve myself in that process, it's handled at a staff level."[1]

These records appear to confirm our concern that Gannon was treated in a manner that deviated from standard White House procedure for determining who receives press credentials, and to what degree members of the press and public are granted access to the White House complex. In fact, these entry and exit records only raise more questions, as your office has issued conflicting statements about his activities and apparently abused the press pass policy to avoid a full-fledged background investigation and allow Republican propaganda to be disseminated through a counterfeit media operation and a fake reporter.

Mr. McClellan, we have yet to receive any direct communication from your office in response to our repeated requests for information. The American people deserve to know what is happening in the White House Briefing room. It is unacceptable that you continue to deny them this information.

Sincerely,

/s

Are you replying to outriding? I think you're in agreement. Outriding was referring to the "outrage" over people staying in the Lincoln bedroom during Clinton's administration. Where's the outrage now?
