The Current Plan:

My Planned Purchases:
Seasonic SSR-650RM $75 AR AP
i7 4770K + MSI Z87-G45 Combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...=Combo.1444730 $465
32G (2x16G kits) G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231568 $300 total (32G)

My Reused Parts:
LIANLI K62 ATX case
SSD 160G INTEL SSDSA2MH160G2R5
HD 1T SAMSUNG HD103SJ 32M 7200
DVD BURNER LITE-ON IHAS124-04
VGA MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5
Klipsch 1/8" 3.1 speakers
Corsair 1500 USB headphones
Filco USB keyboard
Logitech g500 USB mouse
DLink 7 port USB 2.0 hub

My Questions:
Please proof my build. It's been 3 years since I last purchased.
Am I miss-matching any components, wattages or connectors?
Will this be reasonably quiet? I don't see existing complaints about this PSU or fans on this mobo, so I think it will be fine at stock speed.
I will upgrade the GPU in the future, but probably not now.

The Questionnaire:

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Peak Usage:
(On Dual U2410)
Windows 7 Pro 64, Dota2, Starcraft2, LoL, Chrome, foobar2k, putty, eclipse, Notepad++, steam, watching a video stream, crashplan and Microsoft Security essentials. and maybe a database or tomcat running as a service
Of course only one or three of these things will be forefront, but the others will be tabbed-out and still running.

Normal is just a chrome, one game from the above list, foobar2k, putty, and crashplan + OS stuff

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Whatever is reasonable.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
USA (mostly newegg)

4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
No brand preference.

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
2xU2410 (Dual Dell 1900x1200 w/DVI)
LIANLI K62 ATX case
SSD 160G INTEL SSDSA2MH160G2R5
HD 1T SAMSUNG HD103SJ 32M 7200
DVD BURNER LITE-ON IHAS124-04
VGA MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5
Klipsch 1/8" 3.1 speakers
Corsair 1500 USB headphones
Filco USB keyboard
Logitech g500 USB mouse
DLink 7 port USB 2.0 hub

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No OC

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?
1 1900x1200 Vertical
1 1900x1200 Horizontal

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.
Purchase in the next week approx.

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
No, I have a full Win 7 Pro 64 for this machine.

My Existing Machine started freezing (sometimes BSOD, sometimes just freeze) after 3 years of great service.
No need to help with diagnostics in this thread. Though if you're in Pittsburgh and want the swapped-out parts, PM me 🙂
I'm going to run some more diagnostics, but so far, looks like it needs a new mobo, so I'm going to refresh the core.
Here's what we'll be replacing:
MB GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA1156
PSU CORSAIR|CMPSU-650TX 650W
CPU INTEL|CORE I7 870 2.93G
MEM 2Gx2|GSKILL F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

You guys/gals have never steered me wrong. Thanks in advance!

If you're not going to be overclocking, you don't need a K series chip. You didn't express any interest in SLI or Crossfire, so I'm going to assume you don't need an expensive board either. If you know for a fact that 16GB RAM isn't enough then 32GB it is.

CPU
Xeon E3-1230 V3 $255 (no integrated graphics) or
Xeon E3-1245 V3 $290 (if you want to connect one monitor to the integrated GPU)

Motherboard
Asrock Z87 Pro3 $95 AR

RAM
Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB 1600Mhz 1.35V $73 minus promo discount (not sure how much) x2 or x4

The PSU is good.

That Xeon didn't benchmark as high in PassMark, but it's probably close enough. Certainly a great value.

Though I just found this combo thanks to your mobo recommendation (Or I could just stop pretending I'll get any additional value out of the 4770K and get the E3):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...=Combo.1352008
$670 AR
1x ASRock Z87 PRO3 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (Model:Z87 Pro3) $114.99
1x CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 650W ATX12V/EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply (Model:CP-9020038-NA) $99.99
1x Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I74770K (Model:BX80646I74770K) $339.99
1x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM (Model:F3-1600C9D-16GXM) $154.99

PassMark is useless, all it does is show you performance in PassMark. It has little relevance to real world applications; generally I suggest using Anandtech Bench. But Xeon is not listed there.

In terms of performance, a Xeon E3-1245 V3 = (3.4GHz/3.5GHz) of 4770K = 97% as fast as 4770K. Meanwhile, it costs 85% as much. Performance per dollar is even better with the cheaper Xeon that lacks integrated graphics.

That combo ends up being quite a bit more expensive than my recommendations, and it has a less efficient PSU which also has impact on cost/benefit in the long term.

Yup, you're totally right.
After I replied, I read the combo closer and I agree on all points!

Thanks again!

Had to swap out the PSU due to an expired deal. Looks like the mobo rebate is lost, but it's a reasonable purchase anyhow:

Adding an ASUS HD7970 because $292 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121560

Yeah, I avoided the msi because of some reports of whine under gaming load. Probably. Can't go wrong with either.

All 7970's (or really GPUs in general) have the potential for coil whine. How much you notice varies on a sample by sample basis.

Yeah, I totally understand that.
In my fully unscientific sampling of internet comments and newegg reviews, it seems like the ASUS has a smaller chance of whine. Really, though at these prices, I am fine with either.

Well, the good news is that adding the 212+ dropped my CPU temps at Prime95 peak by about 30C over stock.

The bad news is that the 7970 powered-on but was otherwise DOA. I'll wait a couple weeks and see if the new cards push the prices down further or maybe I'll get that MSI 🙂

Damnit, Newegg made me add the 1T Samsung SSD by sending me a coupon to get it down to $509 shipped: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147251

It was one of those 'You look like you're rebuilding your system, here, have this code' email offers, so probably not transferable, but you're welcome to try it: BTEWXWS79 - 15% off the Samsung EVO SSDs
