Lordy, even a simple story can be derailed into some gish gallop debate about rather or not speech creates Nazis.

I guess Nazi rallies were just for fun.

You don't even GET IT do you? For you to spend your time looking for this info then create a topic about it, makes you about as much of a whiny snowflake as it gets.

Whining and finding excuses to attack others, as if it lifts you out of your depressive state of hate?

It hasn't worked so far but you just keep trying...

Attack me too, I mean I could care less but I do want you to do it, then come back later and see if it changed anything or if it's just the same agenda all over again, that it didn't satisfy your ego, didn't right any wrongs in the world, that basically, you're just insane.

Don't consider this a personal attack, you were baited by a lot of other posters who created this bubble of fiction and anti-social wasted behavior. You can continue to waste your time, or not.

And then for you to come here whining about me supposedly whining. What does that make you?

Good grief man do you EVER think before you post?

Says the one taking a dump in the thread.

Still the most accurate forum name here.
Do wait a while and come back, and tell what useful thing came out of this topic.

You seem to lack a grasp of what is productive. I'm not your mother, whining to me, means nothing.

You're making less and less sense. Do you need medical intervention?

But words are not the only way to spread those beliefs. Racists raise racists. A child watching how their parents behave does not require speech.
No one is saying speech is the only way but it is a crucial part. Racists often raise racists and there is absolutely a lot of talk in those homes and circles.

My father said disgusting things. His actions did not back up his words. So I guess this proves your point? Though it's my mother's words and actions that resonated with me the most. She taught that we should love everyone regardless of whether they can be allowed to be in our lives. Her actions backed up her words. She was a beautifully open, tolerant, loving soul. In both cases words preceded actions. Actions can absolutely be more subtle and insidious but words are how we obviously communicate.

Words are the most obvious influencer. <--- Do you prefer it to be worded this way?

Yeesh, look at this mess. Of course speech creates idealogical converts, it's not the sole source, but it sure AF wins believers for the cause.

I have no problem with a nuanced position which is what you seem to be taking. You are different from the others on this.

Speech is a powerful tool that we all need to use. That power can be used for good and it can be used for bad. Its a requirement for a healthy society to use that tool for good, and any society that does not maintain that will fail in the long run.

You have to understand that realibrad is mentally retarded. When someone says "speech creates Nazis" a non-retarded person immediately understands this to mean that Nazis were created by using specific speeches designed to manipulate their minds. Retarded people like realibrad interpret "speech creates Nazis" as "all speech creates Nazis" and extrapolates that into saying potato enough will turn people into Nazis which is ridiculous so he is the smart one.

So when I say that Speech is a tool, and that speech does not cause Nazis, but Nazis use speech to spread their ideas, and then someone disagrees with me, what are they disagreeing with? You say its obvious, but when I state the obvious and I am told that is wrong, then it appears they are disagreeing with the obvious no?

^^ speech is a tool to influence others with your ideals. In essence, if a Nazi with quality oratory skills converts others to the idealogical cause, Nazis are created.

Its quite a bit more complicated than that, but, that was my position ultimately.

Spy said that they are concerned about "Free Speech" for themselves, but not for others.

I said that they really don't care about "Free Speech" because two reasons.
-They want to do things they want.
-Find reasons to justify their actions.
I then concluded that Speech is not really important to them because of the aforementioned.

Young said it is important to them (assuming that is what she meant by important in this context) because its a stepping stone.

I assume she misunderstood because if they had their way, speech would be limited except for theirs. That seems to be their goal, which seems mutually exclusive to "Free Speech".

Moonie jumps in with this.
"What causes people to be Nazis? I think if you look to why you will see that speech is important to them even more than justifying their actions. Their actions have no justification."

That clearly is trying to say that speech is a cause, but, I respond with what is apparently obvious in this response. I explain that speech is a tool, and that speech itself does not cause people to turn into Nazis.

Jhhnn then responds with this. This post is where any argument about the assumption of what is obvious goes out the window because it was stated, and yet he is still disagreeing with Speech being a tool.

You said speech doesn't create Nazis when it obviously does. Oratory plays a huge role. Hitler turned millions of Germans into drooling idiots & Trump does the same with Americans today.

That is what happened. I said speech was a tool, and I was told no.

"Nazis use speech to spread their ideas" leads to the creation of more Nazis. Thus, Nazi speech creates more Nazis.

Gawd. You said speech doesn't turn people into Nazis. Then you said it is a tool that can turn people into Nazis.

You're arguing with yourself.

No. I said this.

Speech does not turn people into Nazis. Speech is a tool, but there are many tools out there. As for their actions having no justification, that is wrong. Morally its wrong, and, the original German belief is not backed by science, but, there are ways that people can contort themselves to believe things that are untrue. That is a much longer and very different discussion.

Speech does not cause Nazis. Speech is not an ideal to uphold beyond it being a tool that they want to have, but, prevent others from having.

What you said is obvious was stated by me. So, speech does not create Nazis, specific ideas spread through speech can influence someone to be a Nazi.
