Proof that Bill Clinton is not the reason for the balanced budgets of the 1990s

The dot com bubble didn't hit until near the end of his term. By 1996, when Clinton ran for re-election there had already been 11 million new jobs created in 4 years. Well before the .com explosion.

The real tech companies were rolling and creating jobs by 1996. Other industries were doing well too. By the time 99/00 arrived though, people were looking for just anything to get a ride on the tech bubble because they tech companies making a lot of money. The tech bubble and bust was only during 99-01. During the rest of the 90's tech was making it big and generating taxable revenue. This new revenue combined with higher taxes got a surplus. However most of the budget surpluses came during the bubble portion of the increase in tech.

Does any of this matter?
Face it... America is on the fast track to becoming less than a third world country.
Forget about science and technology and advancement and leadership. America will never achieve or even possess the tools needed to compete in tomorrows world.
So don't even worry yourselves about all that.

What no one seems to realize or address, while we divide ourselves over taxes, rich vs poor, wall street, and social issues, is that other countries like Japan and China (not to mention India and mexico) are following a totally different route and preparing for the world 25 years from now.

America, on the other hand, cuts education to the bone, cuts planning for our future infrastructure, kills off the middle class, fights over not only what to cut but how much to cut it.
"Bad BIG government"! Who wants clean water? Clean air? Safe food? ...You???

Cut it all...
All while giving away more and more to big business and the upper income, so they can continue to move America off shore and save yet another worthless dollar.

As the trend now stands in America, we will never have the educated population to compete in 25 years. While China and Japan become more and more mobile with new technologies like high speed rail investment, here in America we will still all be driving around our gas guzzling pollution spewing cars on broken roads and freeways, across collapsing degenerating bridges, all while we cry about the high price of gas. And while insisting there is no such thing as climate change, global warning, or any need to address that yet alone invest to protect our environment here at home.

In the very near future, if the American student wants the education to learn the latest technologies and science, and seek a better life in their chosen field, that student will need to move to China, India, japan, Germany or Mexico to find that education and the resources they need. None of that will be available in America.

Not only will America be unable to compete, America will not have the tools to do so, even if we did have the desire too in the first place. Whether or not we will compete is not the question, we will not be able to compete at all regardless. Period.
So don't bother worrying or lose any sleep over that issue...

Welcome Wall-Mart workers, McDonald's workers, low wage no future workers because those will be the only jobs available within our shores. A fat, dumb, uneducated and unhealthy nation. All our news from tabloid TV, and talk radio. Capable of convincing our voting population OF ANYTHING.
I'll say that again... """OF ANYTHING""" !!!!!!!!!

So go ahead... cut education. Continue giving that top 2% holding all the nations wealth their tax cuts. Continue ignoring our deteriorating infrastructure. Let China do all the investing in high technology and mass transit.

Continue to rely on gas from middle eastern countries, and the many future wars necessary to keep that oil flowing to our gas tanks.

Give our businesses more tax cuts, to move more jobs offshore.
Make it as profitable as possible for business to move all manufacturing to other foreign lands.
Give the oil industry huge tax breaks, tons of tax breaks, so we need never worry about replacing our gas guzzling pollution spewing road hogs with high technology mass transit.

Keep the spending cuts coming. Cut everything. Cut is all. Right down to the very bone.
Because who in the country needs an education? Affordable schools? Affordable college? Affordable healthcare? Decent paying jobs? Union protections and union workers?
Who needs that middle class worker?
Who needs any of this?

Lets ignore global warming, as year after year our cities flood and float away.
Ignore global warming, forget about investment in higher fuel efficiencies, let the fires rage and burn down every home and tree across every south western state.

Let us all listen to the republicans. Let them do it all. Let them cut and cut and cut until every American child is looking for an education, a decent job, and a decent place to raise their family.................. in China.

Three points after reading this:

1. It is painfully obvious you have no idea the troubles China is having and predicted to have should they continue this growth in the manner they are.

2. It is painfully obvious you have no idea whatsoever what a third world country is like.

3. And India? Have you read THIS thread?

Rage on, bro.

Republicans would turn US into a third world tax haven banana republic, if given a chance. Fortunately they won't be. Because for all the rhetoric about small government, Americans smacked Republicans down hard for even looking at Social Security the wrong way.

Don't be so sure. In Michigan, our genius citizens voted Republican and they cut everything in order to enact a $2 bil tax break to business. Its not enough though. They want to repeal taxes on cigarettes, cut government benefits/salaries, etc.. even after they got all their cuts. You know the sad thing, a lot of the idiots that voted for them were unemployed. They bought the message of new jobs. Guess, what happened to those idiots? They cut unemployment benefits on them. I don't feel sorry for them though. You voted these business people in, you get what you deserve. Unfortunately, the rest will suffer.

I wanna play this game:

Obama never announced that his economic policies were intended to lead to sluggish growth and an unemployment rate of 9.1% 2.5 years into his term of office, so Obama isn't to blame for the bad economy. But if the economy improves - which was the stated intent of his policies - then Obama gets the credit.

Magnificent Denial. Obama inherited a horrendous unemployment rate, headed downward when he took the oath.

Sluggish growth? Heh. The economy was nearly in freefall when he entered the oval office, sustained only by complete policy reversal by his predecessor. It had been hands off the deregulated financial sector, let 'em do what they want because the miracle of the market can't possibly go wrong... until it went horribly wrong, and then everything was different somehow... It was Bailout Time!

I remember something Righties desperately try to blot from their selective memories- A 2008 Republican National Convention where the then Prez & Vice Prez couldn't show their faces, for the good of the party... Where any mention of their names or deeds was avoided like the plague...

Those avoidances are still in place, but the blind faith in the policies they executed hasn't wavered in the slightest...

Congress spends money, not the President. After the Republican revolution of '94, every Clinton budget was DOA; even the Dems wouldn't submit most of them for a vote, so the Pubbies submitted them and voted them down. The balanced budgets (which were balanced only using excess SS/Medicare/Medicaid funds) were totally Republican affairs, passed mostly (but not completely) along partisan lines. Clinton only vetoed spending bills to press for MORE spending, never less. Clinton deserves a little credit because he could have been much worse, but only a little.

This same Republican Congress went as bat shit crazy as Democrats once Bush II was sworn in. Bush II deserves a LOT of the blame for not only failing to fight these huge increases in deficit spending, but for actively adding to it via his new Medicare entitlement which isn't even means tested. Even when the Democrats took Congress and raised spending even higher, Bush did nothing to stop it; his only veto was over fetal stem cell research. Bush was NOT a conservative. "Compassionate conservatism" isn't conservatism, it's merely liberalism without fetal stem cell research and gay marriage.

By Bureau of Labor statistics, unemployment was 4.2% in January 2001 when Bush II took office, 4.6% in January 2007 when the Democrats took over in Congress, 7.8% in January 2009 when the Democrats took over the White House and both chambers of Congress, and 9.1% now, 2 1/2 years later. It's tempting to use these numbers to whack Democrats (who certainly deserve it), but in point of fact neither party has been particularly responsible and the collapse was caused and exacerbated by the sacred cows of both parties.

Oh, please. After 4 years of total Repub governance, the economy was already snakebit by the time Dems took Congress. This chart tells the story of the greatest looting spree in the history of finance- notice the date-

http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2006/08/26/weekinreview/27leon_graph2.html

Not that Dems have done a terribly good job, because they've had to compromise tremendously- first with Bush, then with the Repub minority in the Senate, and now with a Repub HOR... It doesn't help that Obama might as well be a Republican...

Reagan is not your god. plenty of proof that he was, in fact, one of the worst president's of the century.

Today's economy should be all the proof you need, but you will continue to deny.

Clinton: the most conservative president since Nixon!

We have a deficits because of increased defense spending, and lower tax revenues. Both are things that Republicans fought for.

When reinventing current events isn't enough go back a decade or so and try to reinvent history! What a fucking joke this OP is.

I am pretty sure that chart is bogus.

http://www.politifact.com/virginia/...antor-says-discretionary-spending-20-percent/
In the eight federal budgets approved during Republican George W. Bush’s administration -- non-defense discretionary spending increased by an average 9.6 percent each year. During the first two years of the Obama administration, it has grown by an annual average of 11.9 percent.
So Republicans are bad and Democrats are worse, right?

Holy Fucking Shit. I am sure that It is not entirely possible that non-defense spending increased because the Democrat and Republican consensus, including that among many, many economists, begun by W himself, was that the economy needed a massive injection of money to save it from complte and total collapse.

Your partisan-hackery has completely blinded you from an ability to parse information ins a relevant manner.

OMG. the previous administration injected a shit-ton of cash into the final few months of their term, divided over 8 years...yeah, easily comparable to the exact same policies by the current administration over 3+years.

OMfuckingG.

Dude, the amount in the quote did not include the stimulus.

When you include the stimulus:
"That suggests that when you add in the stimulus, discretionary spending increased 44 percent during the first two years of the Obama administration"

Clinton took the money from Social Security taxes and used it to almost balance the budget. Nothing magical about it.

Dude, you are totally mindless. Republicans are evil, Democrats are saints that only fail because they have to compromise with evil Republicans.

Anyone who thinks that one party is always right and one party is always wrong isn't thinking at all; they are merely spitting out emotions stuck in their rat brain. The two parties are more alike than dissimilar, and where they truly differ, sometimes the Republicans are better and sometimes the Democrats are better. Same thing with left and right, which is usually though not always aligned with Republicans and Democrats.

I think the left and the Democrats are generally better on the environment, free trade, and gay marriage, off the top of my head. You don't recognize this distinction because you are truly one of those to whom the left and the progressive movement function as a religion, so anyone offering anything less than total blind allegiance to the left seems like a far right wing nut to you.

I like how in your 'rebuttal' post you mindlessly demonize the opposition in exactly the way you were just complaining about.

You exist in a world entirely without a sense of irony. It's both funny and sad.
